Role and Core Function (Summary)
The Senior Accountant is responsible for assisting the Finance Director in reconciling account balances and bank statements, maintaining the general ledger and preparing month-end close procedures. The incumbent must combine excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles and practices, and assists in leading and training the members of her accounting team to achieve excellent results.
VI Job Duties & Responsibilities
Assists the Finance Director with:
- Preparation of GCT Returns
- Preparation of Tax Returns
- Preparation of Financial Statements and budget according to schedule.
- Directly supervise the Accounts Department through the establishment of financial standards and goals, training and development of junior Accountants and Accounting Clerks by planning, assigning and reviewing staff’s work, and providing technical support and guidance to enhance their development.
- Conduct Staff Appraisals based on targets and goals set and the technical and non-technical training and guidance given before, during and after each assignment.
- Assists in ensuring timely completion of assignments by leading the Accounting Team effectively , ensuring quality of work is consistently up to standard and by helping to build the Corporate Brand.
- Verify, allocate, post and reconcile Accounts Payables and Receivables, ensuring the production of error-free accounting reports are presented to the Financial Controller each month.
- Be responsible for the management and maintenance of the Fixed Asset Schedule, ensuring that registers reflect accurately numbers and costs in line with accounting systems and procedures.
- Reviewing and approving Bank Reconciliations, journal entries, payment vouchers, payroll entries, petty cash vouchers, are accurately posted to ensure the organization’s cash management position remains healthy at all times.
- Be responsible for the reconciliation of Balance Sheet items, analyzing financial information and summarizing financial status of the organization, ensuring accuracy and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

Job Specification
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance
- Professional Accounting qualification e.g. ACCA, or part thereof
- 5+ years experience in a relevant position.
- Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting and cost control principles including International Accounting Standards, International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), International Standards in Auditing (ISAS).
- Statistical Knowledge for Analysis and Problem Solving
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications
