Our client in the Retail and Distribution Industry, located in the East is seeking to fill the position of a Junior Manager - Purchasing
The position will initially be a 6-month contract, however, based on the successful candidate’s performance as well as the operations of the business, there is the possibility that the position may become permanent.
Upon hire, the candidate selected will be primarily responsible for conducting price market research. This will entail visiting all of our major competitors to gather pricing data by categories of products and collating and submitting this information to Management. Therefore, the ideal candidate must possess a functional vehicle in addition to the other requirements.
Please note, conducting price market research will not be their only function. The position also entails meeting with suppliers, liaising with Store Management to monitor and control inventory levels, preparation of reports for products etc.
Salary:
The compensation package is as follows:
Base Salary - $8,902.40
COLA - $200.00
Travelling Allowance - $500.00
Working hours for this position is Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. On occasions, the successful candidate will be required to work beyond their normal hours of operations in order to facilitate meetings, tight deadlines etc.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develops and directs business strategies to support profitable and sustainable growth through effective category selection and merchandising.
- Oversees the category management function within the company to ensure effective product selection, placement, promotion and gross profit.
- Develops and maintains effective relations with suppliers and other stakeholders in support of the business objectives.
- Evaluates and recommends business partnering opportunities.
- Oversee procurement for the company.
- Develop and implement category profit plans.
- Liaise with Marketing/Operations department personnel to ensure that store merchandising facilitates corporate objectives.
- Ensure that retail prices are competitive.
- Ensure that all purchases and receipts conform with company policy.
- Liaise with stores to manage inventory levels.
- Foster a productive relationship with vendors.
- Monitor and review the performance of products and make recommendations for improvement.
- Prepare monthly reports on the performance of product categories.
Qualification
Education
Degree in Business Management or related field.
Certificate in Purchasing and Supply Management.
Experience
Two (2) years experience
Experience in retail and distribution will be an asset.
