Duties and responsibilities
- Review with the Processing manager on daily /weekly/monthly basis the production targets to be achieved.
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate the rostering of processors for the processing of raw materials to packaged finished products.
- Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of food safety, quality, health and safety policies and procedures in the processing plant.
- Confirm specifications, quantity, or any special requirements with Technical/Marketing or management teams for the processing of specialized products, e.g., new product developed.
- Liaise with Quality Assurance for inspection reports prior to commencing daily processing. Ensure Quality Assurance monitor line for conformance to good manufacturing practices, quality standards, accurate labeling, and packaging
- Effectively monitor team for conformance to food safety, health, valid Food Handler’s Permit, safety, personal hygiene, and personal protective equipment standards. Practice good housekeeping practices.
- Ensure footbaths and other safety mechanisms are in place to reduce the risk of cross containment by team or visitors.
- Ensure that all team members are wearing PPE equipment, and the processing plant is safe to commence work by inspecting production equipment and conditions. Liaise with Maintenance for repairs of any defective machinery or equipment and/or sanitation for cleaning.
- Liaise with Distribution for raw material and storage of finished products. Ensure the accurate, safe, and secure movement of goods from Processing to storage destination and report any tampering of products immediately.
10. Ensure that products are stored in conformity with applicable food safety and public health regulations – e.g., temperature -18C, where necessary.
11. Work with team effectively to reduce or eliminate wastage – seek to get optimum output.
12. Update daily processing inventory in IT system.
13. Generate daily processing reports and circulate to management.
14. Verify production records at the end of the shift for accurate reporting.
15. Manage work within timeframe to reduce if not eliminate overtime.
16. Report all incidents or accidents to the Human Resources Department – form must be completed.
17. Conduct routine performance evaluation of subordinates to maintain a highly productive, motivated, and committed workforce. Recommend training as required for growth and development.
Experience and qualification required
18. Knowledge of food processing operations, especially seafood.
19. Qualification in Food Technology/Science or equivalent.
20. Knowledge of industrial Food Processing machinery and equipment.
21. Excellent knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP),
22. Knowledge of Quality Management and food safety systems – ISO 9001, HACCP.
23. Knowledge of sanitation and pest control best practices.
24. Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety standards.
25. Supervisory experience and knowledge of labour laws.
26. Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a supervisory role.
