General Accident is growing and is strengthening its underwriting team.
We are seeking a skilled and customer-focused Underwriter to join our Client Services team. This role sits at the core of the business balancing technical underwriting judgement, customer service and business development to support sustainable and profitable growth.
As an Underwriter, you will be responsible for assessing and pricing risks, binding cover within approved authority limits, supporting clients throughout the policy lifecycle and contributing to the ongoing development of the Company’s book of business. This is an excellent opportunity for an underwriting professional who enjoys working closely with customers and intermediaries while developing strong technical and commercial expertise within a dynamic insurance environment.
Key Responsibilities
Underwriting & Risk Assessment
- Provide timely and accurate quotations across all classes of general insurance in line with underwriting guidelines and approved limits of authority
- Bind coverage and accept new business in accordance with delegated authority
- Issue proof of cover, policies, endorsements and related documentation
- Ensure ongoing compliance with underwriting guidelines, corporate policies, manuals and standard operating procedures
- Maintain accurate and complete records within the company’s insurance management system
Business Development & Portfolio Management
- Support initiatives and special projects aimed at growing and strengthening the Company’s book of business
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, brokers and intermediaries
- Ensure timely renewals through proactive communication with clients
- Assist with billing, receivables and unallocated accounting queries related to assigned accounts
Reporting & Administration
- Assist in the preparation of monthly production and performance reports
- Ensure accuracy, efficiency and timeliness of all underwriting and administrative activities
- Support general administrative functions within the Client Services team as needed
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum five (5) CSEC passes, including Mathematics and English (Grade I or II)
- Professional insurance certification such as BDI, CII Certificate or equivalent
- 1–6 years’ experience in general insurance underwriting
- Strong computer literacy and comfort working within an insurance management system
