Heavy Duty Mechanic/Millwright
The successful candidates will have primary responsibility for maintaining and repairing equipment, machinery and mechanical systems throughout the Plant and Mines. The Heavy Duty Mechanic will be responsible for effecting repairs to mobile equipment including tractors, backhoe, graders, bulldozers, excavators, haul trucks, front-end loaders, locomotives. The Millwright will be responsible for effecting repairs to stationary equipment including conveyors, wobblers, panfeeders, shiploader, rotary kilns, boiler plant, diesel Plant, diesel generators & auxiliaries.
Main Responsibilities:
- Dismantle and re-assemble equipment such as pumps, motors, gearboxes and hydraulic systems.
- Overhaul engines, pumps, gearboxes, transmissions, brake systems, hydraulic & hoist cylinders, cables and other components as required.
- Perform routine and emergency repairs to maintain stationary, heavy-duty & light-duty equipment.
- Perform specified planned preventive maintenance inspections and undertake major overhauls as necessary.
- Diagnose the cause of faulty operation or breakdown of equipment; determine the procedure & repairs needed.
- Install machinery and equipment according to layout plans, blueprints, and other drawings.
- Read blueprints and schematic drawings to determine work procedures.
- Participate in Reliability-Centred Maintenance activities inclusive of gathering CM data, assessing equipment condition and risks of failure; recommending mitigation actions to maximize equipment availabilities, efficiencies while minimizing downtime costs.
- Align machines and equipment, using dial indicator and laser alignment tools.
- Assist in the Planning of Maintenance activity within the crew.
- Recommend parts lists and specifications to effect repairs.
Required Competencies - Success in this role will require:
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex maintenance problems and sound understanding of mechanical and basic electrical maintenance processes.
- Excellent troubleshooting and condition monitoring techniques.
- Well-honed mechanical/millwright skills.
- Sound knowledge of industrial safety and job safe practices.
- Working Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
Qualifications and Experience:
- UTECH Diploma or VDTI/NVQ-J, Level 3 certification.
- 5 years experience in conducting preventative maintenance and repairs to stationary and/or mobile heavy duty equipment.
