GROUP GENERAL MANAGER OF OPERATIONS JOB SUMMARY:
Lead operational execution across the group by setting standards, running a strong KPI rhythm, and holding sub-company General Managers accountable for safe, reliable, and profitable delivery. Drive operational excellence, uptime, and continuous improvement using the group's systems and policies.
Key responsibilities
Operational leadership and accountability
- Set group operating standards, KPIs, and reporting cadence (weekly operations reviews; monthly performance reviews; quarterly planning).
- Coach and manage sub-company GMs; ensure each has clear plans, scorecards, and accountability actions.
- Ensure each business runs with SOPs, training standards, and compliance processes suitable to its risks.
Reliability and uptime
- Institutionalize preventive maintenance and asset discipline using the CMMS across applicable operations.
- Drive reductions in lane/service downtime through root cause analysis, spare readiness, and process improvements.
Operational excellence and continuous improvement
- Lead cross-company improvement projects (cycle time, throughput, waste reduction, cost-to-serve improvement).
- Standardize best practices while respecting unique requirements of each business line.
Resource planning and governance
- Oversee operational resourcing, productivity standards, and cross-site support as needed.
- Support COO on capex planning and operational readiness for expansion or new initiatives.
Risk, safety, and incident management
- Maintain an operational risk register and ensure incident reporting, corrective actions, and safety standards are enforced.
- Lead crisis response for critical outages or major operational incidents.
Qualifications and experience
- Degree in Operations, Engineering, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 10+ years operations leadership experience; multi-site leadership strongly preferred.
- Proven record building KPI systems, improving reliability, and leading managers.
- Experience working with workforce and operations systems (e.g., Connecteam), inventory/workflow platforms (Odoo), and maintenance systems (CMMS).
