The Injection Moulding Technician is responsible for the efficient set-up, operation, optimization, and routine maintenance of injection moulding machines to ensure consistent product quality, safe operations, and achievement of production targets. The role supports continuous improvement initiatives while adhering to all health, safety, environmental, and quality standards of the plant.
Core Functions & Key Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, and optimize injection moulding machines, including mould installation, start-ups, changeovers, and shutdowns.
- Adjust and control process parameters such as temperature, pressure, cycle time, clamp force, and material flow to ensure consistent product quality and optimal machine performance.
- Conduct root-cause analysis and troubleshoot moulding defects, including flash, short shots, sink marks, warping, burns, and discoloration.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance, cleaning, lubrication, and basic repairs on moulding machines, moulds, and auxiliary equipment.
- Monitor production output, downtime, scrap, and reject levels, implementing corrective actions to meet efficiency, quality, and cost targets.
- Inspect finished products during and after production to ensure compliance with quality specifications, drawings, and customer requirements.
- Accurately complete all production records, quality checks, maintenance logs, and shift reports in accordance with company procedures.
- Work closely with Production, Quality Assurance, and Maintenance teams to resolve technical, mechanical, and process-related issues.
- Ensure strict adherence to all health, safety, environmental, and plant operating procedures, including proper use of PPE and safe handling of materials and equipment.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives, including process optimization, waste reduction, cycle time improvement, and cost-saving projects.
- Train and support machine operators as required to ensure proper machine handling and process compliance.
- Perform any other duties reasonably assigned to support plant operations and business objectives.
Special Conditions associated with job
- Technical certification, vocational training, or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, Plastics Technology, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience operating and setting up injection moulding machines in a manufacturing environment.
- Proven experience with mould installation, troubleshooting, and process optimization is required.
- Experience in a high-volume manufacturing or plant operations environment is an asset.
