TEMPORARY ACCOUNTING ASSISTANT
(short term contract)
LOCATION: COUVA
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Minimum of 6 months’ experience in Accounts Payable
- Currently studying ACCA (qualification not required)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Strong knowledge of invoice processing and account coding
- Understanding of VAT and other tax requirements
- Familiar with internal controls and financial procedures
- Good document management and filing skills
- Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy
- Ability to meet strict deadlines and work efficiently
- Good communication skills for vendor and internal follow-ups
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Maintain proper filing and storage of all Accounts Payable documents for easy retrieval
- Validate invoices using established internal controls before processing
- Accurately code, batch, and post invoices in a timely manner
- Ensure all valid invoices are processed within required payment timelines
- Investigate and resolve invoice discrepancies, including liaising with vendors when needed
- Apply correct VAT and tax treatment to all invoices and transactions
- Prepare accruals for unprocessed invoices at period end
- Enter and describe general journal transactions accurately and on schedule
- Follow company financial policies, delegation of authority, and contract guidelines
- Support receipt of cash and prepare bank deposit documentation
- Prepare and issue receipts to employees or third parties
