Job Summary
The Assistant Manager – IT is accountable for directing and coordinating the organisation’s information and communications technology operations to ensure reliable, secure, and efficient ICT services and infrastructure.
This position is responsible for guiding the design and deployment of technology solutions that enable business strategy and day-to-day operations. The role provides leadership to internal IT staff and external service providers, offers technical guidance, and ensures strong controls around information security, system reliability, operational resilience, and risk mitigation.
The Assistant Manager also fosters a cooperative, results-oriented culture that supports innovation, continuous enhancement, and the consistent delivery of dependable ICT services.
Job Responsibilities
- Formulate, execute, and manage the organisation’s ICT strategy, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and operational priorities.
- Prepare, manage, and track the ICT budget, ensuring efficient use of resources and optimal return on investment.
- Oversee ICT infrastructure including servers, storage platforms, networks, and communications systems to maintain security, currency, and performance.
- Evaluate and monitor ICT systems and business-critical applications (including Solis) to ensure availability, functionality, security compliance, and regulatory adherence.
- Establish and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity arrangements, including oversight of data backup and restoration processes to safeguard data availability and integrity.
- Work closely with the Business Continuity Management System Oversight Committee to ensure technology initiatives strengthen organisational resilience.
- Set, track, and review service level agreements, performance indicators, and service benchmarks to assess ICT service delivery.
- Manage ICT-related contracts and vendor relationships, including procurement activities, licensing, renewals, and maintenance agreements.
- Design, implement, and periodically review an enterprise-wide cybersecurity framework aligned with organisational goals, incorporating risk assessments, threat evaluations, and mitigation strategies.
- Ensure the consistent application and enforcement of cybersecurity policies, standards, and controls.
- Monitor compliance with cybersecurity regulations, industry standards, and best practices.
- Champion cybersecurity awareness across the organisation through ongoing education and training initiatives.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and professional development to the ICT team, cultivating a collaborative and high-performance culture.
- Actively manage team performance, identify capability gaps, and facilitate appropriate training and development interventions.
- Prepare and submit regular (weekly, monthly, and quarterly) reports on ICT operations, projects, and initiatives.
- Escalate and report cybersecurity incidents, risks, and compliance matters to senior management, including progress on mitigation actions.
- Keep informed of emerging ICT trends, technologies, and best practices, particularly those relevant to the insurance and financial services sector.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with organisational policies, regulatory obligations, and industry standards.
- Ensure ICT projects are completed within agreed timelines, scope, and budget parameters.
- The role may require work outside of normal business hours, including evenings or weekends.
Job Requirements
- At least three (3) to five (5) years of relevant experience in ICT or IT management, preferably within the financial services sector.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, or a related field.
- Postgraduate qualifications and/or professional certifications would be considered advantageous.
Knowledge, Skills, and Capabilities
- In-depth understanding of enterprise ICT environments, including:
- Network technologies (LAN/WAN, VPNs, firewalls)
- Server platforms (Windows Server and/or Linux)
- Database systems (SQL Server, Oracle, and/or MySQL)
- Practical knowledge of cloud and hybrid architectures (e.g. AWS, Azure) and modern application technologies to effectively oversee internal and third-party development efforts.
- Proven expertise in cybersecurity and information security management, including vulnerability assessment, threat detection, and incident response.
- Familiarity with core insurance systems and a solid understanding of insurance operations and workflows.
- Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and standards applicable to regulated financial institutions in Trinidad & Tobago, including data protection and ICT governance frameworks.
- Strong project and vendor management skills, with the ability to plan, deliver, and oversee ICT initiatives.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and other enterprise productivity tools.
