Job Title: General Practitioner
Location: Negril, Westmoreland, Jamaica
Overview:
We are seeking a qualified and compassionate General Practitioner to join our medical team. The General Practitioner will treat all patients according to the biopsychosocial model, where primary contact and continuous care toward the management of patients' health is a priority. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive healthcare services, including diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care to patients of all ages.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Conduct thorough examinations of patients and provide appropriate medical treatment.
- Obtain a history of presenting complaints and conduct examinations to gather the intel necessary to make diagnoses
- Use the Emergency Severity Index (ESI) as a tool for patient triage
- To think and act quickly to make a tentative diagnosis and determine the appropriate course of treatment
- Discuss with patients the treatment, diagnostic tests and medication options and prescribe medications and treatments as needed.
Resuscitate and stabilize patients and transition care to an appropriate endpoint whether that be the ICU, general inpatient bed, another hospital, or home - Respond to all forms of cardiac/cardiopulmonary arrest with immediate effect
- Coordinate and collaborate with nurses, specialists and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care.
- Provide patient education on health maintenance and disease prevention.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records using the Hospital Information Management System
- Participate in continuing education and training to stay current with medical advancements.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Must be trained in the Caribbean
- Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS)
- Caribbean Association of Medical Council Certificate (CAMC- applicants not trained at UWI)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certificate
- Must be a licensed General Practitioner in Jamaica
- A minimum of one year of experience as a Senior House Officer (SHO) or a Medical Officer (MO1)
- Experience working in the Accident & Emergency (A&E) Department
- Malpractice Insurance
- Strong clinical skills with a commitment to patient care
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
Conditions Related to Job:
- Regularly required to sit; frequently stand and walk short distances; occasionally bend, twist, reach above shoulder level
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Biomedical and environmental hazards may include contact with mechanical equipment, body fluid and long periods at the computer screen
- Working on shifts (including nights),weekends and on public holidays
- Working in Primary and/or Secondary healthcare setting
