JOB TITLE: INTERNAL AUDITOR
JOB PURPOSE:
The Internal Auditor is responsible for the completion of planned internal control, compliance and fraud audit procedures that provides independent assurance to the leaders of the Company and the Audit and Risk Committee of the Board of Directors. The Internal Auditor participates in the development and maintenance of the internal audit program, completion of the annual risk assessments of the company and preparing independent audit reports. This position is responsible for conducting various internal audit engagements and preparing audit reports with analysis, appraisals, recommendations and counsel in accordance with the International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Perform audits in a professional manner and in accordance with approved audit programs
- Obtain, analyze, and appraise evidentiary data as a basis for establishing an informed, objective opinion on activities being audited and the efficiency of performance of the activities being reviewed
- Verify details of recorded transactions accounting and operating documents to ascertain whether transactions are properly supported and are recorded correctly in accordance with applicable laws and regulations
- Utilizes appropriate audit techniques to determine that the organization is in compliance with applicable laws and regulations that could have a significant impact on operations
- Participate in evaluating audit scope and preparing audit programs designed to achieve stated audit objectives
- Fosters strong business relationships with financial and regulatory agency auditors
- Perform evaluations of the adequacy and effectiveness of the organization’s system of internal control and the quality of performance in carrying out responsibilities
- Perform research to locate and summarize laws and ordinances
- Review legal summaries and assists in determining if the program being evaluated is in compliance
- Make oral or written presentations to management during and at the conclusion of the examination discussing deficiencies, and recommending corrective action
- Prepare formal written reports expressing opinions and conclusions regarding the audit results
- Evaluate the adequacy of corrective actions taken by management to improve deficient conditions
- Monitor management responses and corrective action plans to ensure all deficiencies are resolved appropriately
- Prepare work papers, schedules, and summaries to support conclusions and comply with documentation guidelines
- Any other duties that may be assigned
- Preparation on annual budget

Qualifications/Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Accounting, Finance or related field
- Professional certification in AML/CFT (CAMS, CAMLFC, FIBA)
- Professional certification in internal audit (CIA, CRMA, QIAL)
- Master’s degree would be an asset
Experience and Additional Competencies:
- A minimum of five (5) years auditing experience including audit planning and testing
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience in the insurance industry
- A minimum of two (2) years in supervisory or managerial position
- Attention to detail
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
