About the Role
Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Chief Accountant will oversee the daily operations of the Accounts Department while ensuring the timely preparation of accurate monthly financial statements. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical accounting proficiency, exceptional leadership capabilities, and a proactive approach to cost management and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, develop, and manage the Accounts Department, fostering a high-performance, high-engagement culture through continuous skill-building, coaching, mentoring, and inspirational leadership while ensuring efficient day-to-day operations
- Develop, implement, and maintain robust internal controls to ensure compliance with company policies and statutory requirements
- Provide financial guidance to management and staff, promoting understanding of processes, policies, and the financial implications of business decisions
- Prepare comprehensive monthly financial and operational reports to support executive decision-making
- Collect, analyze, and consolidate accounting data for timely monthly reporting
- Ensure accurate posting and reconciliation of all financial transactions
- Review concrete pricing on a per-job basis to ensure profitability and accuracy
- Administer and process administrative and executive payroll
- Act as an active participant in preparing competitive bids
- Support cost-control initiatives by identifying and addressing unfavorable variances promptly
- Perform other related responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications & Experience
- ACCA, CPA, MSc. in Accounting, or equivalent professional designation.
- Min of 7 years’ post qualifications experience in a progressive accounting environment with 5 years in a mid-management role (e.g. Senior Accountant or Assistant Chief Accountant).
- Strong computer literacy with proficiency in accounting software; experience with Sage 100 is an asset.
- Proven ability to lead, motivate, develop and supervise accounting personnel
- Excellent customer service orientation.
