Role Overview
The QA/QC Inspector – Mechanical is responsible for supporting the field execution of the Quality Assurance and Quality Control program by ensuring that quality issues within Construction and Engineering are identified, reported, and resolved. This role involves planning, coordinating, and reporting on QA/QC activities, inspecting and supervising key ITP hold points, and working closely with subcontractors’ quality personnel on-site.
Key Responsibilities
- Anticipate and resolve field problems to eliminate costly rework or re-testing.
- Validate approval, distribution, and revision of procedures, process plans, and work/operations procedures for construction activities.
- Identify and evaluate quality-related incidents, non-conformances, and recommend effective solutions.
- Initiate, collect, and maintain QA/QC records in accordance with documented procedures.
- Coordinate with subcontractors to ensure proper implementation of their quality programs.
- Manage relationships with subcontracted companies to ensure compliance with client best practices.
- Liaise with HSSE representatives to ensure documentation complies with safety standards.
- Provide QA/QC daily reports and updates on assigned projects.
- Conduct audit surveillance during work progress to prevent last-minute issues and monitor corrective actions.
- Perform site inspections at subcontractor workshops (welding, NDE, painting/coating, hydro-testing).
- Review inspection reports for compliance with industry codes and standards.
- Liaise with subcontractor QC inspectors to resolve site problems.
- Review subcontractor procedures and quality documentation (ITPs, inspection procedures, drawings, isometrics).
- Review PQR, WPS, welding qualifications, and radiograph films as required.
- Prepare punch lists and review subcontract fabrication work packs.
- Compile final dossiers for construction and client approval prior to project close-out.
- Ensure client satisfaction before, during, and after work completion.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma/Certification in Construction, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering from a recognized institution.
- Certification/Training in Quality based on ISO 9001:2015 (e.g., CQE, CQA, CQT, CQI).
- Level I or II Radiographic Film Interpretation.
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI).
- NDT experience (MT, PT, UT, VT) is an asset.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role.
- Working knowledge of codes and standards: API 570, 620, 650; ASME B31.3; AWS D1.1; API 1104; ASME Section V & IX; NACE; ISO 8501; SSPC systems.
- Knowledge of heat treatment processes and equipment (electrical resistance, induction coils, gas-fired heaters).
- Thorough understanding of coating applications and industry standards.
- Experience with installation of equipment such as pumps, motors, skids, valves, vessels, compressors, fired heaters, auxiliary equipment, and packaged equipment in plant construction.
