Job Title: Senior Attorney-at-Law

Location: Trinidad and Tobago

Firm Type: Fast-Paced, Full-Service Law Firm

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled, self-driven Senior Attorney-at-Law with a minimum of five (5) years' experience in Civil Litigation to join our dynamic legal team. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, results-driven, and capable of independently managing a wide portfolio of matters within a fast-paced legal environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide expert legal representation and strategic advice in a wide range of civil litigation matters.
Act as Instructing Attorney and collaborate with Advocates/Counsel in the preparation and management of complex legal cases.
Prepare comprehensive and persuasive Closing Submissions, Skeleton Arguments, and Supporting Affidavits for Counsel’s review and settlement.
Draft, file, and serve all relevant litigation documents including:

Applications, Affidavits (with Exhibits), Cases and Authorities, Lists of Documents, Bundles of Documents

Court of Appeal documentation, including Records of Appeal, Applications for Stay of Execution, and other appellate filings.

Conduct in-depth legal research and opinion writing with a high degree of accuracy and independence.
Maintain a thorough, up-to-date working knowledge of the Civil Proceedings Rules (CPR) and Family Proceedings Rules (FPR).
Ensure procedural compliance and court deadlines are met with minimal supervision.
Manage a diverse caseload, monitor case progress, and proactively identify and resolve issues as they arise.
Engage in regular file review and quality assurance to ensure the integrity of all court filings.
Provide mentorship or support to junior staff, as appropriate.

Qualifications and Experience:

Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree and Legal Education Certificate (L.E.C.) from a recognized institution.
Minimum 5 years’ post-qualification experience in civil litigation, including active courtroom and file management experience.
Demonstrated proficiency in legal drafting and opinion writing.
Strong knowledge of the CPR and FPR, with practical experience in court procedures at all levels.
Familiarity with appellate procedures and document preparation for the Court of Appeal.

Strong organizational and analytical skills with keen attention to detail.
Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and under pressure.
Highly ethical with the ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
Proficient in legal research tools and Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to prioritize and multitask across multiple matters and deadlines.

Preferred/Additional Assets (Optional but Advantageous):

Experience working with electronic case management systems or digital court filings.
Familiarity with alternative dispute resolution (ADR) processes.
Experience supervising junior attorneys or legal assistants.
Business development mindset and client management experience.
