Library Clerical Assistant
Job Summary:
Provide efficient, courteous, reliable and accurate service to library patrons. Assist with various clerical duties, maintaining an attractive and neat environment; and performing other duties as required. Identify library and information needs of patrons, respond to complaints and report on the resolution or non-resolution of the problem. Assure the implementation of official library policy and procedures therefore a full understanding of library is required.
Customer service/focus:
- Provide courteous service/advice.
- Resolution of minor customer complaints.
- Provide feedback to customers on progress of query.
- Contribute ideas for service improvement.
Responsibilities:
- Assist students, faculty, and staff with borrowing, renewing, and returning library materials.
- Maintain accurate records of library transactions.
- Respond to general inquiries and direct patrons to appropriate resources or staff.
- Maintain library records, update databases, and organize files.
- Assist with data entry, correspondence, and report preparation.
- Sort and distribute mail and library notices.
- Shelve books and materials in proper order.
- Assist with inventory checks and book repairs.
- Process new books and materials, including labeling and covering.
- Assist patrons in accessing online databases and digital resources.
- Troubleshoot basic technical issues with computers and library systems.
- Assist with setting up and organizing library workshops and events.
- Prepare promotional materials and announcements for library programs.
- Ensure a clean and organized library environment.
- Responsible for the leisure reading corner
- Perform other duties as assigned by the library supervisor or chief librarian.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Written communication clearly formatted, free from grammatical and spelling errors.
- Oral communication, clear and courteous.
- Ensure that patron requests are fully met.
- Write/complete accurate reports/correspondence.
- Meet deadlines. .
- Demonstrate awareness and adherence to standard procedures.
- Ability to make decisions within stated guidelines and to work independently in a wide variety of situations.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATION:
Graduated from a Secondary institution with four (4) GCE O’ Level or CSEC subjects at the General Proficiency Level, including English Language and a numeric subject plus a minimum of one to two (1-2) years’ relevant experience in a similar area.
