Job Title: Fibre Optic Splicer/Cable Technician
Location: Trinidad
About the role:
To support all GPON splicing requirements while finding and fixing network related faults, as well as understanding engineering and splicing drawings. The person must have knowledge of construction practices for outside plant cable placement, a background in fibre optic splicing documentation practices.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ability to fusion and mechanical splice and terminate fibre optic cables using various connectors while maintaining the fibre optic network.
- Installation and testing of pressurised and non-pressurised closures on all types and sizes of fibre.
- Determine construction methods as in aerial, underground and use of existing conduits.
- Develop splicing diagrams and designs to facilitate network architecture.
- Experience and knowledge using a Fibre Optic Scope and or a Fibre OTDR.
- Familiarity with equipment and tools used on the fibre network.
- Resolve network faults in a timely and satisfactory manner in line with contractual SLA's.
- Maintain fibre asset inventory and splicing records.
- Provide management with detailed reports of field splicing activity.
- Serve as a resource to your colleagues on matters concerning splicing practices and procedures.
- Troubleshooting and perform maintenance to resolve signal issues.
- Communicate with Team Manager on workload status in order to meet designated goals.
- Safely operate a company bucket truck, which involves working at heights
Desired Skills and Experience
- 2+ years' relevant experience on fibre optic networks, with GPON experience and underground and aerial telecommunications engineering.
- A recognised fibre / telecoms qualification (considered an asset)
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast paced and quickly changing work environment with strict deadlines.
- Equivalent qualification in Electricals, Electronics or Engineering (considered an asset)
- Must be determined and committed to high quality standards.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work on own initiative and act independently whilst being able to work successfully as part of a team.
- Heavy T driving licence. (Considered an asset)
- Flexibility to work shifts and out of hours On-Call in line with business requirements.
- Ability to always represent the company in a professional manner.
