Role Summary
We are seeking a Solar PV Designer to support the design and engineering of grid-tied and hybrid PV + battery systems. This role involves contributing to site data review, preliminary design, detailed engineering, and documentation for Government Electrical Regulator (GER) Certification and JPS Net-Billing.
The Solar PV Designer will help ensure the safe, compliant, and cost-effective delivery of the company’s solar projects.
Core Responsibilities
Prepare electrical single‑line and three‑line diagrams, conductor/conduit schedules, grounding and protection details, and bills of materials.
Run performance models and energy yield estimates, and optimize system designs for safety, code compliance, efficiency, and ease of installation.
Maintain design standards, templates, and project documentation, including accurate as-built records.
Coordinate design updates with internal teams including Installation, Maintenance, Client Relations and Sales, to maintain alignment across all project phases.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical experience.
Minimum 2 years’ experience in PV design or EPC engineering (residential and/or small‑commercial).
Proficiency with AutoCAD and at least one PV design/modeling tool (HelioScope, PVsyst, PV*SOL, or similar).
Working knowledge of inverters (e.g., Sol‑Ark, DEYE, Fronius), LFP battery systems, racking, and protection devices.
Familiarity with Jamaican permitting requirements and JPS interconnection processes.
Strong analytical, technical writing and documentation skills; ability to manage multiple deliverables and deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
SketchUp for site and equipment modeling.
Exposure to power-system study tools (e.g., ETAP, SKM) for short-circuit, protection coordination, and arc-flash analyses.
Experience using drones and photogrammetry for accurate site measurements and 3D models.
Experience managing design revisions, tracking field changes, and producing final as-built drawings.
