Position Summary
An established financial institution is seeking a Legal Officer to manage and oversee its legal and regulatory affairs. The successful candidate will provide sound legal advice, ensure compliance with Jamaican financial and corporate regulations, and support the company’s governance and risk management framework. This position requires a results-oriented legal professional with strong expertise in corporate, banking, and securities law.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate and timely legal advice on corporate, commercial, and regulatory matters.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents.
- Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations, including those of the FSC, BOJ, JSE, and Companies Office of Jamaica.
- Support corporate governance functions such as board and shareholder meetings, resolutions, and statutory filings.
- Conduct legal due diligence and support the execution of corporate and financial transactions.
- Manage litigation and dispute resolution in collaboration with external counsel.
- Identify and mitigate potential legal and compliance risks.
- Liaise with internal departments, regulators, and external stakeholders to maintain strong compliance and governance practices.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and Legal Education Certificate (LEC).
- Admission to practice law in Jamaica and in good standing with the General Legal Council.
- Minimum of 3–5 years’ post-qualification experience, preferably within financial services, banking, or corporate law.
- Strong understanding of Jamaican corporate, securities, and regulatory law.
- Proven experience interacting with financial regulators (FSC, BOJ, JSE).
- Demonstrated experience in contract drafting, compliance, and corporate governance.
