SENIOR INTERNAL AUDITOR

The Financial Services Commission (FSC) is an integrated financial services supervisor/regulator. Our mission is to regulate and supervise the securities, insurance, trust and corporate service providers and private pensions industries, for the protection of their customers, thereby enhancing public confidence in the financial sector of Jamaica.
The FSC has an immediate opening for the position of Senior Internal Auditor.
Position Summary:
The Senior Internal Auditor is responsible for the independent review and assessment of the effectiveness and quality of the policies and procedures within the Financial Services Commission (FSC). They design and execute audit programs to assess key risks (e.g. operational, strategic, financial), facing the FSC. The role also identifies operating inefficiencies and compliance gaps that could affect the organization's performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Audit Planning and Execution: Plan audits including developing audit scope and objective, preparing risk assessments and audit programs. Execute audit field work to achieve audit objectives.
- Internal Controls Evaluation: Assess the effectiveness of internal controls, financial systems, and business processes.
- Compliance Review: Ensure adherence to internal policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
- Data Analysis: Analyze financial data, operational records, and control systems to detect discrepancies and irregularities.
- Audit Reporting: Prepare clear and concise audit reports, summarizing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
- Follow-Up Audits: Examine the implementation of audit recommendations to determine the effectiveness of the corrective actions in addressing associated risks.
- Fraud Detection and Prevention: Identify potential areas of fraud and recommend strategies to prevent fraudulent activities.
- Stakeholder Communication: Collaborate with management, external auditors, and other stakeholders to discuss findings and corrective actions.
- Policy and Procedure Review: Evaluate existing policies and procedures to ensure compliance and recommend updates as needed.
- Conduct or identify existing research to inform and provide policy, planning and advice.
- Monitor and track management action plans to ensure timely issue resolution.
Candidates must possess the required education and experience:
- Chartered Accountant – ACCA/CPA or Masters’ Degree in Accounting.
- Professional designation in one or more of the following certifications: Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Chartered Bank Auditor (CBA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Financial Services Auditor (CFSA), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).
- At least five (5) years’ auditing experience, of which two (2) are preferable in a financial institution or regulator at supervisory level.
- Work experience in IT auditing and exposure to all or some aspects of financial sector operations would be an asset
