Disbursement Clerk
We are looking to hire an enthusiastic and detail-oriented individual with knowledge of accounting and shipping operations. The successful candidate will work closely with key members of staff to prepare and process disbursement accounts, liaise with principals, suppliers, and other stakeholders, and ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in keeping with the company’s standards and policies.
Responsibilities:
- Perform the day-to-day processing of disbursement accounts for submission to the principal within twenty-one (21) days after vessel sailing.
- Gather, collate, and verify invoices and other financial transactions relating to each disbursement account.
- Enter invoices and related transactions into the designated principal’s online portal or via Excel spreadsheets, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare associated debit notes for charges to the principal’s account, along with relevant journal entries, in line with company policy.
- Maintain organized and up-to-date records of all disbursement-related documentation for audit and reporting purposes.
- Liaise with internal departments, principals, and external stakeholders to resolve discrepancies and queries in a timely manner.
- Assist with account reconciliations and provide support during financial audits.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and contractual obligations.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 CSEC subjects including Mathematics and English. OR Diploma or Associate Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or Finance (preferred).
- At least 1–2 years’ experience in an accounting, finance, or disbursement role.
- Experience in the shipping, logistics, or maritime industry will be an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities to meet strict deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with principals, suppliers, and team members.
- Ability to work independently and handle confidential financial information responsibly.
