Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Head of Legal, Risk & Corporate Affairs provides strategic leadership and oversight in corporate governance, legal matters, enterprise risk management, regulatory compliance, and anti-money laundering/counter-financing of terrorism (AML/CFT).
The role will also serve as Corporate Secretary to the Board of Directors, ensuring adherence to statutory and governance requirements.
Core Responsibilities
Legal
- Provide legal advice on contracts, partnerships, and related matters.
- Identify and analyze legal issues to provide appropriate guidance on legal, regulatory, and commercial matters.
- Represent the organization in court when required.
Risk & Compliance
- Oversee the implementation of enterprise-wide risk management frameworks.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate financial, operational, legal, and reputational risks.
- Monitor compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.
- Ensure Anti-money Laundering/Counter Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) policies and frameworks are maintained.
- Ensure compliance with international and national AML regulations.
Corporate Governance
- Provide oversight of corporate governance matters through the operations of the Board Secretariat as the Corporate Secretary.
Minimum Requirements:
Knowledge and Expertise
- Knowledge of legal aspects of the Financial Services Industry, relevant Acts and Regulations governing the sector, Risk Assessment, Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA), and other relevant legislation,.
- Knowledge of Risk & Compliance industry standards in the financial sector.
- Knowledge of Collateral Documentation and related legal procedures
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor of Laws Degree from an accredited institution.
- Certificate of Legal Education.
- Member of the Jamaica Bar Association
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience working in the related areas, in a senior capacity.
- Prior work experience in the financial services industry would be an asset
