Main Purpose of Job:
The Commercial Manager will lead Angostura’s commercial performance across Northern and Western Europe, driving revenue growth, depletions, premium brand positioning, and distributor excellence. The role is accountable for building and strengthening distributor relationships, executing market-entry and growth strategies, ensuring compliance with EU regulations, and developing localized trade marketing to support Angostura’s portfolio of premium brands.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
Commercial Strategy & Market Growth
- Develop and execute commercial strategies to aggressively grow market share in mature European spirits markets.
- Identify and secure potential new distribution partners in emerging, underdeveloped and untapped markets (where applicable).
- Build and implement market-entry strategies for underdeveloped territories, channels, or regions within each market.
- Provide competitor intelligence and consumer insights to inform innovation and premiumization strategies.
Distributor & Customer Relationship Management
- Manage distributor day-to-day relationships, including negotiation of annual distribution contracts, distributor incentives, forecast management, stock management, depletions reporting, and pricing structures.
- Conduct Quarterly Business Review Meetings with Key Markets and regular business meetings with emerging markets.
- Develop and continually review annual joint business and market plans with distributors, including annual volumes, marketing plans, marketing investments and strategic partnerships.
- Ensure performance tracking with quarterly distributor scorecards.
Sales, Forecasting & Financial Performance
- Work with business analysts and financial analysts to manage quarterly order book, ensuring markets submit purchase orders in a timely manner and stay on track to meet forecasted orders.
- Working with distributors and internal business partners to develop revenue and volume-based budgets for the region by SKU, ensuring growth and expansion remain high priority while balancing cash flows and inventory levels.
- Partner with internal finance teams to monitor profitability, margin improvement, and pricing discipline across markets.
- Accurately report on monthly sales and depletions performance, including market intelligence, wins, issues, challenges, and proposed solutions.
Marketing, Brand Building & Premiumization
- Drive brand building through localized trade marketing and promotional campaigns.
- Oversee in-market trade marketing activities tailored to premium and standard on-trade and off-trade channels.
- Develop premium and key brand visibility including but not limited to in luxury hotels, restaurants, and lighthouse bars.
- Carefully monitor A&P investments and expenditure by market, ensuring regional budgets are aligned with approved plans.
- Review and present regional plans bi-annually, ensuring alignment with strategic commercial goals.
Compliance, Governance & Policy Adherence
- Ensure compliance with EU excise, advertising, and labeling laws.
- Work closely with in-house quality assurance teams to ensure products are delivered in line with in-market regulations and market mandatories.
- Establish KPIs and track commercial performance regularly, ensuring timely corrective actions.
Supply Chain & Logistics Coordination
- Collaborate with distributors and internal supply chain teams to forecast demand and optimize inventory allocation and stable stock supply to all markets.
- Carefully monitor stock levels at distributor warehouses and Angostura’s 3PL monthly to ensure continuity of supply.
- Coordinate with logistics teams to ensure smooth product availability.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Economics, Marketing, or related field (required).
- MBA or master’s in international business, Finance, or Strategy (preferred).
- 8–10 years in commercial management in FMCG/beverages, with at least 5 years in spirits/wines.
- Proven success in managing multi-country distributor networks.
- Excellent track record in delivering growth in mature and competitive markets.
- Advanced training or certification in Commercial Strategy, Trade Marketing, or Sales Leadership (e.g., ISMM, CIMA commercial track, WSET for wines/spirits).
- Strong financial acumen with proven ability to manage P&L and drive profit growth.
- Fluency in English plus working proficiency in French, Spanish, or German.
Required knowledge/skills/abilities:
- Strong negotiation and account management skills.
- Deep knowledge of European spirits and beverages markets.
- Excellent stakeholder management (E.g., distributors, retailers, regulators).
- Analytical skills for revenue, pricing and profit margin optimization.
- Technical Proficiency. Strong Excel skills; familiarity with BI tools (e.g., Power BI) and ERP systems (e.g., SAP).
- Excellent presentation and storytelling skills to convey insights clearly to senior stakeholders.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional and cross-regional teams.
- Proactive mindset with ability to identify issues and propose solutions.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality outputs under tight deadlines.
- Problem-solving mindset to overcome infrastructure, supply chain or any other challenges.
- Ability to foresee hurdles and challenges and address them directly with solution-oriented approach.
- Ability to travel to markets for prolonged periods (planned and unplanned)
