The Port Authority of Jamaica wishes to recruit an ASSISTANT DOCK MASTER at the Errol Flynn Marina.
SALARY SCALE: 5,612,841.27 - $6,418,683.77 per annum.
JOB SUMMARY:
This position ensures the safe berth, mooring, storage and servicing of boats at the marina. The scope of responsibilities includes routine inspection and repairs to docks, plumbing and ancillary equipment to assure the appearance and condition of property. The incumbent is responsible for the daily operations of property when the Marina Manager is absent.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management or related field.
- Three (3) years previous marine and minor repair experience.
- Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO) certification would be considered an asset.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Berthing, launching, towing of foreign and local vessels. Assist Captains in hooking up shore-side panel, ties, water and cable.
- Liaise with Government Agencies as necessary and provide entry papers, dockage contracts and other required documentation to foreign vessels.
- Fuel sales, boatyard operations, yachting accommodation and billing.
- Vessels are secure throughout the hurricane season.
- The provision of dock amenities (electrical power and water) to visitors or customers.
- Haul and launch vessels of varying sizes and weight.
- Ensure precision releasing of vessels on stands and keep supports with proper weight distribution.
- Oversee and ensure bi-annual load testing and annual visual inspections of the travel lift.
- Oversee and assist with compliance with safety matters required by the Authority and government agencies to achieve safety for all customers and employees.
- Carry out routine inspection and basic repairs to docks, plumbing and ancillary equipment to assure the appearance and condition of property.
- Carry out regular patrols; check and maintain:
- All mooring for dockage.
- Dock lines.
- Fire extinguishers.
- Restroom facilities.
- Lighting for the premises.
- Log of all vessels hauled or launched.
- Monitor boat yard activities being carried out by external contractors.
- Oversee and perform where necessary shipyard duties, including but not limited to basic machine maintenance, blocking, storage and billing.
- Supervise the renting of boat slips; ensure that boaters observe all marine rules and regulations, including proper dry-docking of boats.
- Monitor and log utilities (electricity and water) used by clients. Assist with billing and payment when required.
- Collect, distribute and account for electrical splitters, telephones and keys to the facility.
- Assist with or Facilitate:
- Supervision/aiding front desk and retail operations, fuel dock, maintenance, grounds and janitorial crew as needed.
- Greeting, assisting and responding to customers promptly and courteously.
- The reservation and dock assignment system.
- Facilitate the execution of Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO) duties relative to the receival of cruise ships per International Security and Port Facility Security (ISPS) standards.
- Prepare reports on portfolio responsibilities. Ensure Supervisor is kept abreast of tasks and activities to be undertaken:
- Maintenance activities required at the facility.
- Prepare daily fuel sales report.
- Prepare annual report on fuel dock for National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA).
- Any other duties assigned.
