The Stewart’s Automotive Group is seeking hire qualified and highly skilled persons to fill the position of:
AUTOMOTIVE BODY PAINTER
Job Summary: The incumbent will work in a team in the company’s Body Shop and will be required to perform automotive paint work at the highest quality standards and in keeping with factory and dealership standards and best practices.
The key duties of this post are as follows:
- Selecting paint according to company requirements and matching colours of paint following specified colour charts.
- Mixing paints to matching colour specifications or vehicles' original colours, stirring and thinning the paints, using spatulas or power mixing equipment.
- Removing grease, dirt, paint, or rust from vehicle surfaces in preparation for paint application, using hand and power sanders.
- Removing rough spots on vehicle panels.
- Masking areas not to be painted with tape and paper.
- Filling small dents and scratches with body filler and cleaning and preparing surfaces to ensure paint and other finishes will adhere properly.
- Pouring paint into spray guns and adjusting nozzles and paint mixes for proper paint flow and coating thickness.
- Monitoring painting operations to identify flaws, such as blisters or streaks, and correcting their causes.
- Sanding vehicle surfaces between coats of paint or primer to remove flaws and to enhance adhesion for subsequent coats.
- Removing accessories from vehicles, such as chrome or mirrors, and masking other surfaces with tape or paper to protect them from paint.
- Spraying prepared surfaces with specified amounts of primers, paint and decorative or finish coatings.
- Touching up paint work and ensuring that work completed is of the highest quality standard.
- Ascertaining that each coat of paint is completely dried, before applying the next coat
- Checking finished work to ensure that it is done according to quality standards.
- Correcting any errors made while or after painting has been completed.
- Disposing of hazardous waste in an appropriate manner.
- Disassembling, cleaning, and reassembling sprayers and power equipment, using solvents, wire brushes, and cloths for cleaning duties.
- Monitoring inventory, request supplies and equipment and ensuring that work areas are properly maintained.
- Building and maintaining positive relationships with members of the Body Shop Team.
- Ensuring proper care is taken in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
- Promoting continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
- A minimum of four CSEC subjects with passes in Math and English
- Professional certification/training in a related field from a college or technical school
- A minimum of four years of related work experience
- Good Writing and Reading skills.
- Proficient in the use of sanders, air ratchet, spray guns and sanding blocks
- Detailed oriented with a track record of making minimal errors.
- Must be computer literate.
- Must have a Driver’s license.
