We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Chief Steward to lead our stewarding team and ensure the highest standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and inventory control across our culinary operations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, organizational skills, and a commitment to health and safety protocols. This role is essential to maintaining a clean, efficient, and compliant kitchen environment.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Excellence
- Supervise daily cleaning operations, ensuring compliance with HACCP and health & safety standards.
- Oversee the cleaning of kitchenware, silverware, floors, walls, and kitchen equipment. Conduct routine inspections of work areas and equipment to ensure hygiene and functionality.
- Manage inventory of kitchen items, replenishing broken or missing items as needed.
- Coordinate with outlets to maintain adequate stock levels within budget.
- Monitor cleaning supply inventory and liaise with Purchasing/Finance for timely reordering.
- Maintain accurate departmental records including inventory logs, breakage reports, and team schedules.
- Support cleaning and organization of kitchen and adjacent areas.
Team Leadership
- Lead and motivate stewarding staff to complete tasks efficiently and to high standards.
- Train new team members and ensure they understand departmental policies and procedures.
- Communicate expectations and uphold a culture of accountability and professionalism.
- Ensure all team members adhere to health, safety, and sanitation regulations.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in stewarding or kitchen operations (training available for suitable candidates).
- Knowledge of kitchen production and food service principles.
- Strong decision-making skills under pressure.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Well-organized with effective time management.
- Proficient in English (spoken and written).
- Ability to follow instructions and document information accurately.
- Physically capable of lifting 20–50 pounds and standing/walking for extended periods.
- Safe Food Handling Certification preferred.
