JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Supervisor/Foreman the Rigger, working individually or as part of a team, is responsible for assembling and installing rigging to lift and move personnel, machinery, plant, equipment or materials in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety and quality standards, codes, specifications and schedules.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Examine load to be moved and estimates weight, size and distances to be carried, assessing any risks that may be associated with the task.
- Appropriately source and use materials and equipment to handle job(s) as necessary e.g. slings, cables, pulleys and other lifting tackle, grappling devices etc.
- Carry out tests on rigging equipment occasionally to ensure safety and reliability.
- Align, level and anchor machinery.
- Attach loads to rigging to provide support or prepare them for moving with the use of hand and power tools.
- Assemble appropriate rigging components and attach rigging equipment to loads to facilitate movement.
- Communicate with employees who are engaged in the process of hoisting and moving loads, to ensure the safety of workers and materials.
- Direct the moving equipment operator (e.g. crane operator) with the proper hand signals to move loads.
- Ensure that all work scope is completed safely.
- Oversee the process of tearing down, cleaning and storing of any rigging equipment or machinery used in moving.
- Ensure that rigging equipment is dismantled and properly stored after use.
- Carry out any other duties/tasks for which the employee has the competencies to perform for successful completion of work objectives.
KEY COMPETENCIES / REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE
- Knowledge and skill in the various processes used in industrial rigging (preparing slings, tackles, grappling devices etc.).
- Knowledge and skill in the selection and use of the materials, tools and equipment used in rigging (slings, tackles, pulleys, grappling devices etc.).
- Knowledge and skill in the interpretation of drawings, identifying materials and fittings physically from the symbols, class and schedules.
- Knowledge and proficiency in the use of hand signals used in crane operations.
- Profound commercial driving experience would be an asset.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE
- Demonstrated competence normally acquired over a minimum of five (5) years experience in a similar position or related field.
- Craftsman level certification (Rigging) from an accredited training institution/ programme recognized by the Company/Client.
- Certification in the operation of Cranes would be an asset.
- Accreditation in Banksman will be an asset.
