Main Purpose of Job
The holder of this position is responsible for the efficient provision, installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware, software, and related infrastructure. He/she will ensure that the institution’s equipment is functioning to enable employees to achieve the organisation’s goals and objectives.
Main Responsibilities
Systems Administration
- Installs, configures, tests, and maintains servers, SAN, and related networking equipment.
- Monitors scheduled jobs and computer output for completeness, accuracy, and errors.
- Performs all critical data backups and secures data according to established procedures.
- Installs firmware and security updates on servers, printers, and related networking equipment.
- Configures and maintains Microsoft Active Directory.
- Install, configure, and maintain IPS/IDS, Firewall, Anti-Virus, Anti-Spam, Anti- Malware, etc. for maximum internal network protection.
- Maintains Unified Communications, VoIP, and any related equipment, services, and platforms.
- Maintains all data used for redundancy efforts and assists with remediation efforts as a result of test findings and risk assessments.
- Logs all computer, terminal, and printer hardware/software problems.
- Calls appropriate service providers and arranges for and supervises repairs where applicable.
- Notifies supervisor of unusual problems.
- Perform software upgrades and installations.
- Creates scripts for the automation of common tasks.
- Provides support to operational staff.
- Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts.
- Manage systems, including e-mail, DHCP, DNS AD, and print servers.
- Maintain and verify backup servers/systems.
- Provide tier-one support, IT training, and troubleshooting to all staff, students, and stakeholders.
- Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
- Administer and maintain end-user accounts, permissions, and access rights.
- Perform system backups and recovery.
- Recommend, schedule, and perform network improvements, upgrades, and repairs.
- Create, update and maintain detailed documentation of the logical and physical network topology, SOPs, IT Training materials, onboarding, and off-boarding procedures.
Streaming and Multimedia Services
- Sets up, operates, and troubleshoots classroom video conferencing and lecture capture equipment including but not limited to microphones, speakers, cameras, LCD screens, SMART boards, projectors, connecting wires and cables, and audio\video mixers.
- Test audio, video, screen-sharing, document cameras, SMART boards, audio and video recording, and other learning technologies in the classroom before the start of class.
- Assist in the day-to-day monitoring, maintenance, and installation of on and off-campus multimedia technologies as well as virtual classroom technologies.
- Participate in the testing and evaluation of new hardware and software as well as in the implementation of prototypes and proof-of-concept solutions.
- Receive classroom streaming requests and schedule meeting room links accordingly at the start of each teaching trimester. Facilitate changes to the teaching schedule and meeting links where necessary.
- Technical support for rentals.
- Orientation for new employees, students and faculty.

Key Competencies / Skills / Qualifications
Technical Competencies:
- Advanced proficiency in the operation of local and wide-area networks and components.
- Proficient with current Microsoft Server and Client operating systems.
- Ability to perform duties accurately and independently.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of and ability to troubleshoot hardware and software issues.
- Technical understanding of network and application layer protocols such as IPv4, IPv6, TCP, UDP, SMTP, DNS, and HTTPS.

Formal Education (Minimum required for position)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Information Systems or related IT specialization.
- An active industry certification or combination of certification in any of the following: MCSE, MCSA, CCNA, Microsoft Azure, etc.) would be a distinct advantage.
- Familiarity with security-related network issues and their appropriate resolution.
- Experience in deploying, managing and maintaining Microsoft Active Directory environment.
