JOB TITLE: Assistant Superintendent

CORE FUNCTIONS

The Assistant Superintendent plays a key role in ensuring that all burial procedures are executed with precision, compliance, and respect. This includes overseeing interments, inurnments, cremations, and columbarium niche installations. The incumbent is also responsible for the timely and accurate installation of head plaques in accordance with Meadowrest Memorial Gardens' standards.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s Degree or Tertiary Level Education preferred

• High School Diploma with passes in English Language and Mathematics (required)

• Certificate in Supervisory Management or NVQ-J Level 3 Certificate (desired)

• 4–5 years’ experience in a supervisory role

• Knowledge of cemetery operations is an asset

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.)

• Effective interpersonal and conflict resolution abilities

  • Directly: Team Leads – Burials, Head Plaque Layers

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Team Supervision & Coordination

• Assign daily responsibilities to team leads

• Ensure burial and plaque teams have the necessary equipment and supplies

• Dispatch and oversee head plaque teams

• Train, coach, and monitor staff to maintain high standards

• Enforce punctuality, dress code, and conduct policies

2. Vault Preparation

• Coordinate and schedule vault preparations

• Monitor pre-purchased vault and fumigation schedules

• Conduct vault quality checks with contractors

3. Burial & Installation Oversight

• Ensure vaults are burial-ready 24 hours in advance

• Supervise all stages of the burial process including prepping, lowering, and sealing

• Oversee head plaque installations and related vault preparation

4. Platinum Premium & Columbarium Services

• Supervise ushers and manage premium and cremation services efficiently

5. Equipment & Scheduling

• Schedule and follow up on maintenance for burial lowering devices

6. Policy Compliance

• Ensure adherence to national laws, the Disaster Risk Management Act, and internal company policies

7. Additional Duties

• Perform other duties as assigned

• Note: Supervisors must not assign tasks to anyone not on the approved staff list

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Required to work on weekends
