JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Chief Accountant
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
Reports to: Financial Controller
Supervises: Accounts Supervisor & Accounting Officers
GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:
The Chief Accountant is responsible for all accounting activities for both financial and management accounting. The incumbent provides the management team with timely, reliable, and relevant reports and analysis on financial information, which will allow for proper decision making for investment and growth. The incumbent is responsible for preparing financial and performance reports, assisting departments with annual budgets, reviews, and internal control.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Analyze and provide monthly reviews on financial performance and departmental administrative expenses and variances.
- Prepare and submit quarterly consolidated financial reports.
- Coordinate all activities to facilitate the annual statutory audits.
- Monitor all bank related administrative activities.
- Perform tax management and compliance function.
- Manage the return and payments of GCT.
- Perform month-end accounting activities such as reconciliations and journal entries.
- Coordinate with finance team to complete assigned accounting tasks within deadlines.
- Evaluate computerized accounting systems and provide recommendations to I.T. team for performance improvements.
- Analyze financial discrepancies and recommend effective resolutions.
- Monitor expenditures, analyze revenues, determine budget variances, and report the conclusions to management.
- Respond to accounting inquiries from management in a timely manner.
- Assist in budget preparation and expense management activities for assigned accounts.
- Assist in auditing activities by providing necessary information and preparing requested documentation.
- Monitor and record financial transactions according to company policies and regulations.
- Provide guidance to other Accountants when needed.
- Review and recommend changes to existing accounting procedures.
Qualification & Experience
The incumbent should have:
- A 1st Degree in Accounts/Finance.
- ACCA certification.
- Experience: A minimum of 5 years.
- Supervisory experience.
The working hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Mondays to Fridays. However, work and training may be required outside of working hours and on weekends occasionally.
