Job Description

The Water Utilities Technician helps ensure the efficient operation and maintenance of our water treatment and distribution systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in water utilities and a passion for ensuring the delivery of safe and clean water to our community.

Responsibilities

• Conduct routine inspections of water treatment and distribution systems to identify and address maintenance issues promptly.
• Perform preventative maintenance on pumps, valves, meters, and other equipment to ensure optimal performance.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and perform repairs or replacements as needed.
• Monitor and test water parameters using specialized equipment and tools.
• Perform NRW detection and diagnostics.
• Respond to emergency situations such as water main breaks, leaks, or contamination incidents in a timely and effective manner.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and water quality data.

Requirements

• Technical school diploma in civil engineering; additional technical training or certification in water utilities is preferred.
• Proven experience working in water utilities or distribution systems maintenance.
• Strong understanding of water utility infrastructure, including pumps, valves, meters, and related equipment.
• Knowledge of water quality testing methods and procedures.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and respond effectively to emergency situations.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and interact with stakeholders at all levels.
• Experience with GIS mapping software is a plus.
• Commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship in water resource management. 

Physical Demands

• Regularly requires sitting, walking, bending, and lifting for prolonged periods of time.
• Must hear and speak well enough to conduct business over the telephone and two-way radio for long periods of time.
• Requires extended standing time exposed to the elements. The nature of the work exposes the employee to direct sunlight, hot, dusty, windy, and muddy conditions.
• The employee must wear the appropriate personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
• Requires the safe operation of a fleet vehicle
