JOB SUMMARY:  

To provide technical and engineering support for the development and implementation of

sustainable waste management systems across the Turks and Caicos Islands. The Waste

Management Engineer will assist in optimizing waste operations, ensuring compliance with

environmental standards, and supporting the consultancy tasked with establishing the

institutional and legislative framework for the Waste Management Authority.

 

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Develop and review engineering plans for waste management infrastructure, including landfills, transfer stations, recycling facilities, and composting sites.
  2. Conduct technical assessments of existing waste management facilities and recommend improvements.
  3. Prepare technical specifications and cost estimates for equipment and infrastructure related to waste handling and processing.
  4. Provide technical input for the development of national waste management policies, standards, and regulations.
  5. Ensure waste management operations comply with environmental and public health legislation.
  6. Support environmental impact assessments (EIA) and feasibility studies related to waste infrastructure projects.
  7. Oversee waste collection, segregation, and disposal operations to ensure efficiency and environmental compliance.
  8. Coordinate with contractors, consultants, and other stakeholders to ensure project timelines and quality standards are met.
  9. Monitor and evaluate waste management systems to identify areas for improvement.

10. Collect, analyze, and report data on waste generation, recycling rates, and landfill capacities.

11. Maintain technical documentation, project records, and performance reports.

12. Utilize GIS and other digital tools to map and monitor waste management infrastructure.

13. Provide technical support and training to staff and stakeholders involved in waste management.

14. Collaborate with ministries, municipalities, and private sector partners to enhance integrated waste management.

15. Support public education campaigns promoting waste reduction, reuse, and recycling.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field

Experience

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in waste management, environmental engineering, or related infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of solid waste management systems, landfill operations, recycling technologies, and environmental regulations.
  • Familiarity with international waste management standards and sustainable practices (e.g., circular economy, waste-to-energy).
  • Experience in project management and contract administration is an asset.
  • Proficiency in GIS, AutoCAD, and other relevant design or data analysis software.

 

 

SALARY: Grade 7.1 - $57,438.00 per annum plus allowances

For persons recruited outside of the Turks & Caicos Islands a two-year extendable contract is offered. Other benefits in addition to basic salary include a Housing Allowance, End-of contract gratuity of 6%, return passages for a family of up to two children under the age of 18 years, freight cost and duty exemption on personal effects imported within six months of the appointment.
