POST OF WARD MANAGER

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (included but not limited to):
Manage, monitor and supervise the daily activities of the Nursing Ward.
Ensure that personalized quality care is given to each patient/client.
Ensure that nursing policies, objectives, procedures and standards for the operation of the services and care of the patient/client are adhered to
Promote the ongoing improvement and development of the Ward.
Ensure that medication, equipment and supplies are readily available in accordance with policies and procedures.
Ensure the effective and efficient operation of the Hospital and Senior Citizens Home during the absence of the Nursing Supervisors as directed.
Participate in the evaluation and monitoring of quality of patients and pursue opportunities to improve care and resolve identified concerns.
Provide management and administrative support to the Director of Nursing Services.
Ensure that established nursing objectives of the Hospital are achieved.
KEY RELATIONSHIPS
Directly report to the Director of Nursing Services
Liaise with other Nusing Managers including Director of Medical Service, General Surgeons, Medical Internist, Physicians and other Managers within the clinical areas at the Princess Alexandra Hospital and the community Polyclinics.
KEY AUTHORITIES
Monitor, coordinate and Manage the activities of the Wards.
Implement quality management policies and procedures to ensure that standards of the Wards are maintained.
Deploy, supervise and evaluate the nursing staff.
KEY REPORTS
Incident and accident reports.
Staff appraisals and confidential reports.
Damage reports sustained on equipment etc.
Annual reports of the Wards.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge and Ability
The incumbent must possess well-developed theoretical and practical knowledge and skills in nursing and midwifery operations, other nursing specialty, knowledge of current trends in nursing, administrative principles and techniques, sound judgment, high standards of integrity, excellent written and oral communicative skills, the ability to act efficiently and effectively in emergency situations, effective leadership and managerial skills as well as the ability to establish and maintain interpersonal relationships.
Such knowledge, skills and abilities are obtained in the process or acquisition of:
A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Certificate in Midwifery, Certificate or Degree in Nursing Administration, Certificate in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Experience:
Three (3) years post qualification experience in a similar or related position.
