JOB SUMMARY:
As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, the VP of Human Resources (VPHR) will drive HR, Health & Safety strategy to align with CAL’s business objectives. This role oversees talent acquisition, performance management, organizational development, compensation, and employee relations while fostering a culture of safety, equity, and continuous improvement. The VPHR will advise executive leadership, shareholders, and the Board of Directors on critical people and operational strategies.
KEY DELIVERABLES:
- Service Delivery: Develop and execute HR strategies supporting CAL’s vision across all territories. Leads the day-to-day management of the assigned operations/functions of the company and its subsidiaries, in accordance with the strategic plan and operating & capital budgets, to ensure the delivery of excellence in customer service and satisfaction.
- Operational Effectiveness: Ensures effective and efficient utilization of assigned resources, towards achieving organizational goals and standards, as well as budgetary compliance.
- Continuous improvement: Actively drives the development of a culture of continuous improvement and optimization of processes throughout the organization, through the development of effective planning, monitoring and implementation structures and systems.
- Employee Relations: Oversee industrial relations, contract negotiations, and compliance with the labour laws and international conventions.
- Reporting: Ensure the delivery of accurate and timely operational and other reports, to support effective data analysis and decision-making.
- People Management: Is the authority on human resources issues in the organization. Provides leadership, direction, coaching and guidance to team members towards ensuring the achievement of corporate objectives, continuous improvement and growth of team members.
- Safety and Quality: Responsible for the development and execution of plans for the advancement of the organization’s safety and quality culture, through personal leadership in this area and compliance with corporate and regulatory guidelines.
KEY FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
These include but are not limited to:
- Partner with the CEO and executive team to align HR strategy with business goals.
- Design talent acquisition systems for equity, transparency, and organizational fit.
- Lead performance management, compensation, and benefits programs.
- Oversee Health & Safety operations, Medical Unit, and Printery Services.
- Resolve complex industrial relations issues and guide ER compliance.
- Drive leadership development, coaching, and organizational change initiatives.
- Develop a best-in-class ER function. Identify opportunities for scaling, clarity, consistency, and improved employee experience while leveraging the expertise and experiences of the ER team. Provides effective leadership and guidance in the management of industrial relations issues – inclusive of contract negotiations, IR compliance and management.
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
Qualifications and Experience:
- You will possess a Degree in Human Resources or a related field, with Project Management certification. An MBA or postgraduate equivalent professional certification would be an asset.
- You will have a minimum of 10 years HR experience, with 5 years’ executive/strategic leadership experience in HR - specifically in the areas of Talent Acquisition and Development, Systems Development, Performance Management and Employee Relations. Significant experience leading a human resources organization, ideally within large multi-cultural/national organisation, with transferable skills would be a considerable advantage.

- Leadership: Demonstrated ability to inspire teams, manage change, and foster growth.
- Technical Expertise: Proficiency in HRIS, Microsoft Office Suite, and multi-territory operations.
- Communication: Exceptional negotiation, stakeholder engagement, and cross-cultural communication skills.
- Integrity: Uphold ethical standards and accountability at all levels.
Other Competency:
- Demonstrated leadership and change management skills.
- Strong Project Management and organizational transformation skills
- Proficient in MS Excel, Word, Microsoft Outlook.
- A self-motivated leader who is able to develop others, adapt to changes in the work environment, manage competing demands and inspire teams to succeed.
Additional Information:
The successful candidate will be based at the company's head office in Piarco, Trinidad and Tobago, must be legally authorised to work in Trinidad and Tobago, and may be required to travel to other Caribbean Airlines jurisdictions.
