Seeking a Veterinary Officer to provide animal health care, oversee imports/exports, support farmers, and protect public health in the Cayman Islands. Applicants must meet the Cayman Islands Veterinary Board requirements for licensure.

The Cayman Islands Department of Agriculture is inviting applications for the position of Veterinary Officer. This is a vital role supporting the growth and sustainability of the islands’ agricultural sector while safeguarding animal and public health.

 As a Veterinary Officer, you will:

  • Provide medical and surgical care for livestock, horses, and other animals.
  • Oversee the import and export of animals and animal products to ensure compliance with international and local regulations.
  • Support farmers through livestock production and extension services, improving animal husbandry practices across the islands.
  • Contribute to animal disease surveillance, control, and prevention programmes, including zoonotic disease monitoring.
  • Assist in food safety initiatives such as ante-mortem inspections and the regulation of foods of animal origin.
  • Play an active role in animal welfare and public education programmes that protect both animals and the wider community.

Applicants must meet the requirements of the Cayman Islands Veterinary Board to be eligible for licensure to practice veterinary medicine in the Cayman Islands. Interested candidates should ensure that they are fully eligible under these requirements before applying.

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1 year internship in large animal medicine at a recognised institution under the supervision of a qualified veterinarian, or 5 years’ active clinical experience with a focus in large animal veterinary medicine.
  • Sound knowledge of veterinary medicine and surgery, disease surveillance and control, veterinary public health, and regulatory medicine.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver’s licence (Cayman Islands or eligibility to obtain).
  • Applicants must meet the requirements of the Cayman Islands Veterinary Board to be eligible for licensure to practice veterinary medicine in the Cayman Islands. Candidates should ensure they meet these requirements before applying.

 Preferred/Advantageous Skills:

  • Experience with equine medicine.
  • Familiarity with artificial insemination of livestock.
  • Knowledge in honeybee health and disease management.

Salary Range:  $87,444 - $114,768 Caymans Islands Dollars
