We are seeking to recruit a suitable candidate for the following position in the Food and Grocery Division:
VAN SALES & DISTRIBUTION SUPERVISOR
Major Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
Sales & Commercial Performance
- Ensures the achievement of monthly Sales, Gross Profit, Coverage, Effective Visits, and Drop Size targets across all assigned routes.
- Drives route productivity by ensuring planned customer calls are executed consistently and effectively.
- Monitors and improves average drop size through improved selling techniques, product mix optimization, and customer development.
- Identifies and develops new distribution and volume opportunities within existing and new customers.
- Leads initiatives to increase market coverage and customer universe penetration within assigned territories.
Route & Field Execution
- Conducts regular route audits and field coaching to ensure customers are visited, serviced efficiently, and in line with company standards.
- Works alongside Van Sales staff to reinforce selling discipline, call preparation, objection handling, and closing techniques.
- Ensures high standards of customer service and relationship management across all assigned routes.
- Minimizes lost sales by providing route coverage during Van Salesman's absence and ensuring service continuity.
Merchandising & In-Store Execution
- Ensures strong product visibility and rack placement execution through signage, promotional activity, and shelf compliance.
- Works with sales teams and customers to improve space allocation, product facings, and promotional display quality.
Controls, Compliance & Operations
- Ensures strict adherence to accounts receivable policies and cash management procedures.
- Conducts random stock checks on distribution trucks to validate inventory accuracy and prevent loss.
- Maintains accurate records of attendance, absenteeism, and route performance.
- Oversees assigned fleet, ensuring proper vehicle upkeep, efficient dispatch, minimal downtime, and compliance with end-of-day procedures.
- Supports continuous improvement in route efficiency, scheduling, and operational discipline.
Reporting & Business Review
- Prepares and submits timely and accurate reports, including but not limited to:
- RTM (Daily)
- Quarterly Team Business Reviews
- Customer Business Reviews (as required)
- Uses data and field insight to provide recommendations for sales growth, route optimization, and commercial execution improvement.
Leadership & Team Development
- Coaches, mentors, and develops Van Sales teams to strengthen selling capability and execution standards.
- Reinforces a culture of accountability, performance discipline, and continuous improvement.
Knowledge & Experience:
- A Diploma level qualification or similar
- A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the FMCG Van Sales environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
- Working knowledge of Auto Mechanics would be an asset
- Knowledge of geographical road networks of Trinidad & Tobago will be an asset
- Possession of a valid Class 4 Driver's Permit
