Applicants are invited to fill the following vacant position at St. Jude Hospital:

ULTRASONOGRAPHER

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must have:

  • Registered with the St. Lucia Allied Health Council to practice as an Ultrasonographer.
  • Bachelor's degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience as an Ultrasonographer.
  • Previous experience as an ultrasound technologist preferred, particularly in a hospital or clinical setting.
  • Proficiency in operating ultrasound equipment and understanding of ultrasound techniques and protocols.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development, including participation in relevant courses, workshops, and conferences.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care:

  • Verify patient identities and explain the ultrasound procedure to alleviate any concerns or anxiety they may have.

Diagnostic Ultrasound Imaging:

  • Perform a variety of diagnostic ultrasound examinations, including abdominal, obstetric, gynecologic, vascular, and musculoskeletal imaging, ensuring adherence to established protocols and guidelines.
  • Provide prompt and efficient ultrasound services in emergency situations, prioritizing urgent cases and collaborating with the medical team to deliver timely diagnostic information.

Image review and documentation:

  • Review and analyze ultrasound images for clarity, accuracy, and diagnostic quality, ensuring that all required anatomical structures are appropriately visualized.
  • Collaborate with radiologists and other healthcare providers to discuss imaging findings, clarify any ambiguities, and assist in the interpretation of results.
  • Document imaging findings accurately in the patient’s electronic health record (EHR), including technical details and any observations made during the procedure.

Equipment Operation and Maintenance:

  • Operate ultrasound equipment proficiently, adjusting settings such as gain, depth, and focus to achieve optimal image quality.
  • Stay updated on advancements in ultrasound technology and techniques, incorporating new methods and equipment to enhance diagnostic capabilities.

Administrative tasks:

  • Enter patient information and imaging details into the hospital’s radiology information system (RIS) and picture archiving and communication system (PACS).
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, imaging logs, and equipment maintenance documentation.

Key Competencies

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in operating diagnostic imaging equipment and understanding of imaging techniques and protocols.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, staff, and physicians.
  • Commitment to Quality: Dedication to delivering high-quality patient care and maintaining standards of excellence in radiology services.

Salary will be paid in accordance with the experience and requirements for the post. with the terms stipulated by The Board of St. Jude Hospital.
