Truck Operator

The Driver is responsible for delivering packages to Store Locations (all-island) on an everyday basis. This is a full-time position. Working hours and times will vary and will be dependent on assignments and schedules. Work may be required on Public Holidays and Weekends.

Requirements/Qualifications/Abilities:

• Minimum High School Diploma/Certificate
• At least four (4) years of experience in a similar position with no major accidents
• Possession of a valid General Driver’s License an open license 7000kg truck or higher.
• Capable of efficiently maneuvering large trucks.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

•  Follow routes and ensure timely execution of deliveries. Ensure that packages are offloaded in a safe manner without damages to Stores.

•  Ensure that the motor vehicle records (fitness, registration, insurance) are up-to-date and that the required renewals are in keeping with government regulations. Ensure that a copy of thesedocuments are always present in the vehicle.

•  Complies with the traffic regulations by ensuring that the signaling systems are functioningproperly, and lights and other accessories are in good condition.

•  Inspects the vehicle and checks gas, oil, water, tires and battery regularly.

•  Reports all accidents involving the vehicles (minor or otherwise) promptly to the Logistics Manager. A written incident/accident report should also be submitted.

• Reports and requests necessary repairs and servicing of vehicles and ensures that repairs are properly done.

•  Other duties as assigned, either verbally or in writing

Main/Major Competencies/Skills:

•  Sound knowledge of Jamaican Road Code and the Road Traffic Act and driving regulations
• Excellent defensive driving skills and working knowledge of vehicle mechanics.
• Excellent defensive driving skills.
• To respond quickly to situations in case of an accident or incident on the road.
• Ability to interact with customers and other stakeholders.

• Operate company vehicles to transport freight to designated locations across the island.

• Ensure timely delivery and pickup of goods in accordance with the schedule.

• Verify and sign for the receipt of goods upon delivery.

Work Environment:

• Involves working in a fast-paced environment with on-going interactions with the Manager/Supervisors.
• Subject to a certain amount of dust and heat.

Physical Demands:

The employee frequently is required to sit for long periods. May be required to lift up to 50 pounds

with the use of a trolley, able to stand, bend, lift, stretch and properly load a vehicle to ensure maximum usage of space
