Transmission & Distribution Data Analyst
The Barbados Light & Power Company Limited (BLPC) is seeking applications from suitably qualified professionals to fill the position of Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Data Analyst. Reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager, the successful candidate will support the operations, maintenance and planning, of the electrical grid by providing data-driven insights that improve efficiency, reliability and safety. The role requires a deep understanding of operational procedures, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work with large datasets.
Job Duties:
- Gathers, processes and manages data from various sources related to transmission and distribution systems, including SCADA, AMI, sensors and other monitoring tools.
- Ensures data integrity, accuracy and consistency across all platforms.
- Develops and maintains dashboards, reports, and visualizations to communicate key metrics and findings to stakeholders.
- Performs root cause analysis on system outages, inefficiencies, and other operational issues, and recommends solutions based on data.
- Updates datasets such as outage data to calculate any relevant company metrics.
- Creates and maintains predictive models to forecast reliability performance, outage impact, and potential failures.
- Utilizes machine learning, automated intelligence, and statistical techniques to improve forecasting accuracy and decision-making.
- Works closely with engineers, planners, operations teams, and other business functions to provide data-driven insights that support system planning, reliability, and optimization.
- Assists in the development of strategies for load management, asset management, and network reliability.
- Supports compliance with internal requirements by providing accurate and timely data for reporting purposes and ensures all data handling processes adhere to industry standards and regulations.
- Identifies opportunities to improve data collection processes, analytical tools, and reporting methodologies.
- Stays updated on industry trends, emerging technologies and best practices in data analytics and the energy sector.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field
- Certified Data Professional, Certified Analytics Professional, or similar certification would be an asset
- Experience in the energy sector would be an asset
- Three to five (3 – 5) years of experience in data analysis or a related field
