Job Title:TOUR GUIDE

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Represent the company professionally at all times, maintaining a high standard of grooming, conduct, and adherence to company values.
  • Ensure all daily assigned tour functions are completed as directed by the Tour Operations Supervisor or designate.
  • Execute all tour activities and excursions strictly in accordance with approved SOPs, operational standards, and tour scripts.
  • Provide guests with accurate, engaging, and approved tour information, ensuring consistency in messaging and delivery. 
  • Deliver tours in alignment with the organization’s environmental policy, reinforcing conservation and responsible tourism practices. 
  • Follow all safety, operational, environmental, and animal welfare protocols approved by the company. 
  • Actively monitor tours to ensure safety practices are followed at all times. 
  • Ensure guests adhere to all safety procedures and recommend removal from tours when safety rules are breached. 
  • Conduct daily inspections of tour areas, equipment, trails, aviaries, buildings, and grounds prior to tour execution and document findings accordingly. 
  • Clean, maintain, and sanitize assigned work areas, tour equipment, food preparation areas, and food storage containers in accordance with health and safety requirements. 
  • Clean, tidy, and sanitize bird cages, exhibits, and related facilities to ensure a safe and hygienic environment for animals and guests. 
  • Conduct daily routine checks of birds and habitats, observing behavior for signs of illness, injury, stress, or abnormal weight changes, and report concerns promptly to the Tour Operations Supervisor. 
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records related to daily tour operations, inspections, animal observations, feeding schedules, cleaning routines, and incidents. 
  • Respond to bird-related emergencies and assist with the delivery of veterinary care in accordance with approved procedures. 
  • Detect and remove deceased birds from enclosures promptly and respectfully, following established health, safety, and environmental protocols. 
  • Provide recommendations to the Tour Operations Supervisor regarding diet adjustments, habitat improvements, or exhibit modifications to enhance animal well-being and guest experience. 
  • Engage guests daily through guided tours, demonstrations, and educational interactions that promote safe and respectful up-close experiences with nature. 
  • Ensure all equipment, exhibits, and tour areas are clean, secure, and properly stored at the end of each day, including securing aviary facilities and feeding materials. 
  • Report all incidents, accidents, and near misses immediately and ensure accurate documentation is completed. 
  • Work with the SSE Officer to support incident investigations and implementation of corrective actions. 
  • Attend daily briefings, scheduled meetings, training sessions, drills, and refresher courses as required. 
  • Follow assigned work schedules and notify management promptly if deemed unfit for duty. 
  • Promote teamwork, professionalism, and a positive working environment within the Tour Operations team. 
  • Uphold confidentiality and conduct duties in accordance with company policies and procedures. 
  • Be adaptable to change and support continuous improvement of processes and standards. 
  • Perform other related or non-related duties as assigned to support the efficient and effective functioning of operations.

 

Education and Experience: (Minimum Requirements):

  • Minimum of four CXC subjects including English Language 
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in tour operations, nature-based tourism, or related environment 
  • CPR and First Aid certification 
  • Experience working with animals, aviaries, or natural environments is an asset

  • Passion for nature, conservation, and environmental sustainability 
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, outdoor environment 
  • Ability to handle stressful situations calmly and professionally 
  • High attention to detail with strong safety awareness 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team 
  • Knowledge of Barbados’ history, culture, and natural environment 
  • Ability to manage guest behavior and address concerns tactfully
