Ensure the collection, processing, and validation of topographic and GIS data for the project. Guarantee the accuracy of field surveys, integration of data into CAD/GIS plans, and coordination with design, construction, and subcontractor teams to deliver compliant and actionable outputs.
ROLE LEVEL
Reports to Design and Procurement Manager and Design Engineer
LOCATION
Based in St. James, Trelawny or Hanaover
ROLE PURPOSE
Ensure the collection, processing, and validation of topographic and GIS data for the 70 km pipeline project (3 zones). Guarantee the accuracy of field surveys, integration of data into CAD/GIS plans, and coordination with design, construction, and subcontractor teams to deliver compliant and actionable outputs.
DIMENSIONS
Technical: Oversees topographic surveys, data processing (GPS, drones, 3D scanners), and production of GIS maps/models (QGIS/ArcGIS). Validates data accuracy for design studies and construction works.
Organisational: Manages a team of surveyors (internal/subcontractors) and collaborates with Design Engineers, drafters, and construction teams. Interfaces with local authorities (NEPA, NWA) for validations.
Financial: Optimizes costs related to surveys, equipment, and GIS software.
INTERFACES
External: Subcontractors (surveyors, drone operators), Suppliers (GIS equipment), Client, Regulators (NEPA, NWA).
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Technical:
• Plan and validate survey campaigns (pre-project, as-built).
• Integrate data into CAD/BIM plans and project GIS systems.
• Ensure traceability and archiving of raw/processed data.
• Train and supervise surveyors on survey protocols and safety.
Contractual/Commercial:
• Verify subcontractor deliverables (reports, maps) compliance.
• Participate in coordination meetings (scheduling, field risks).
Regulatory & Compliance:
• Ensure surveys comply with legal requirements (boundaries, easements).
• Document non-conformities and propose corrective actions.
Security & Risk Management:
• Enforce safety protocols for field teams and subcontractors, including PPE compliance, equipment safety, and hazard identification.
• Conduct risk assessments for survey activities (e.g., terrain access, weather conditions, traffic).
• Collaborate with the HSE team to investigate incidents, implement preventive measures, and ensure emergency procedures are in place.
• Monitor and report security risks (e.g., unauthorized access to survey sites, equipment theft)
Reporting:
• Produce weekly reports (progress, deviations, KPIs, safety incidents).
• Contribute to project reviews with maps, GIS analysis, and risk mitigation updates
PERSONAL QUALITIES AND EXPERIENCE
• 5+ years in topographic surveying for infrastructure projects (pipelines, linear works).
• Proficiency in GIS tools (QGIS, ArcGIS, AutoCAD Civil 3D) and equipment (GPS RTK, drones, scanners).
• Experience in field team management and coordination with design/construction.
• Rigor, ability to work in demanding, multi-zone environments.
•Knowledge of Jamaican standards (NEPA, NWA) and BIM processes.
• Certifications in surveying/GIS (a plus).
