Role Overview: The Test Lead is responsible for overseeing all testing activities within a project or initiative. This role ensures that a structured and effective testing process is in place to deliver a high-quality solution that aligns with business requirements. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of various testing disciplines and demonstrate the ability to manage and execute the testing lifecycle from planning through to completion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead end-to-end testing activities, from planning through to execution and implementation.
  • Collaborate with Business Analysts to review and analyze functional and non-functional requirements, identifying any gaps or ambiguities.
  • Assess the need for and manage the creation of various test plans, including Master Test Plans and Detailed Test Plans.
  • Prepare test plans and secure necessary approvals from stakeholders.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to define and validate relevant business scenarios for testing.
  • Design, build, and maintain traceability matrices to ensure full coverage of requirements.
  • Conduct risk assessments related to testing, and develop strategies and plans to mitigate identified risks.
  • Develop all required testing documentation and artifacts throughout the testing lifecycle.
  • Monitor test progress, providing regular updates and status reports to the Test Manager or Project Manager.
  • Track and manage test variances, including severity classifications and resolution statuses.
  • Report test metrics and insights as required by the business and project leadership.
  • Escalate test-related issues to the appropriate stakeholders, including Test Management, Business, and Project teams.
  • Coordinate and manage administrative tasks impacting the Test Team, such as ensuring systems access is in place.
  • Prepare and present the Test Completion Report to Business and Project stakeholders for final review and approval.
  • Ensure all required test artifacts are retained in accordance with audit, regulatory, or legal guidelines specific to the line(s) of business.
  • Supervise and support the test team in executing their responsibilities, including:
    • Designing and maintaining traceability matrices, test cases, and test scripts
    • Executing test cases, validating results, and documenting outcomes
    • Logging variances and assigning appropriate severity levels
    • Performing re-testing and validating fixes until resolution is achieved
    • Reporting test progress and issues during all test phases: planning, execution, and closure
    • Communicating daily testing updates and concerns to relevant stakeholders

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in software testing or quality assurance, with at least 2–3 years in a leadership role (e.g., Test Lead, QA Lead).
  • Additional certifications in Agile (e.g., Scrum Master), DevOps, or project management (e.g., PMP) are advantageous.
  • Proven experience managing testing across multiple projects, ideally within complex, cross-functional environments.
  • Experience with test management tools (e.g., JIRA, HP ALM/Quality Center, TestRail, Zephyr).

Key Competencies:

  • Testing Expertise: Strong knowledge of testing methods, tools, and processes. Able to turn business and technical requirements into test plans and scenarios.
  • Leadership: Experienced in leading test teams, assigning tasks, and supporting team members. Works well with Business Analysts, Developers, and Project Managers.
  • Organization: Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines. Proactive in solving problems and handling issues as they arise.
  • Communication: Able to write clear test documents, report progress, and explain results to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
