OBJECTIVE/PURPOSE
The Technician I, Pipeline Maintenance, provides services for the operation, repair and maintenance of gas transmission and distribution pipelines and related facilities to ensure a reliable supply of Natural Gas to NGC’s customers.
There are twelve (12) vacancies for this position.
FUNCTIONS
- Operates hydraulic/mechanical machinery in hot tap and stoppling operations.
- Installs and removes pipeline pigs and operates enclosure valves during manual pigging operations.
- Assists other employees in the conduct of duties related to pipeline operations and maintenance.
- Performs other operational duties on the pipeline network such as purging, depressurizing and commissioning of pipelines.
- Monitors third party activities in the vicinity of pipelines and related facilities.
- Performs general maintenance work on pipelines and related facilities such as cleaning, washing, painting, greasing and servicing of valves and other equipment
- Assists in the modification, construction and repair of buried pipelines, above ground installations and metering facilities.
- Prepares technical reports, as required.
- Assists in the conduct of pipeline surveillance and leakage surveys.
- Performs minor repairs to the tools and equipment.
- Ensures the safekeeping and return of all tools, equipment and unused materials from the field.
- Performs general housekeeping functions at pipeline stations and related facilities.
- Operates Company vehicles as required.
- Responds to Pipeline emergencies as necessary.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
The minimum requirements for the position are:
- A recognised National Technicians Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (MET).
- A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a related field.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Knowledge of:
- Coating systems used on the Pipelines and above ground facilities
- Maintenance and operation of gas pipeline systems. Terminology used in gas industry-
- Instrumentation and Measurement systems.
- Types of valves
- Hot Tapping and stoppling equipment and its operations.
- Pigging operations.
- Pipe fitting,
- Basic knowledge of Corrosion, cathodic protection and internal corrosion monitoring system.
- OSH Regulations.
