Technician I - Food Technology

The incumbent is responsible for performing a variety of food and beverage processing activities in the Food Processing Centre.

Department:  Food Technology

Reports To:  Programme Leader

Position Scope:

 The incumbent is responsible for performing a variety of food and beverage processing activities in the Food Processing Centre. They will also be required to perform tasks relevant to the development, audit and implementation of Food Safety Management Systems; the delivery of introductory food safety training; and the development of food and beverage prototypes in a lab environment.

Key Duties And Responsibilities:

• Prepares Administrative Documents - Routine Quotations, Contracts and Purchase Requisitions
• Conducts training programmes
• Conducts food safety audits
• Develops Food Safety System Documentation and provides implementation support
• Assists with Prototype Development (Development, Standardisation and Improvement)
• Assists with production activities associated with contract processing/facility rental
• Assists with product development and process projects
• Conducts research projects
• Assists with projects - e.g. research, prototype development, training, audits, etc.
• Any other Food Science and Technology related duties

Education:

Minimum Requirements - Technician’s Diploma in Food Science or a related discipline

Experience:

 Five (5) years relevant work experience in food manufacturing, food service or a related field.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities etc:

• Knowledge of GMP will be an asset
• Knowledge of HACCP will be an asset
• Proficiency in MS Office – Word, Excel, Powerpoint
• Good presentation skills
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Good time management skills
• Good interpersonal skills/team player
• Positive attitude
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to multi task
• Previous experience as a trainer will be an asset
• The ideal candidate mut be flexible, dependable and adaptable
• A combination of skills, experience and knowledge may be considered.
