Technical Officer

Main Purpose of Job:

The Technical Officer will serve as a pivotal contributor to the seamless functioning of our Ageing, Alcohol Storage, and Port Facility. This position underpins the technical and logistical operations of the site, with a remit to uphold efficiency, safety, and compliance across all activities.

The ideal candidate will possess a background in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field), alongside strong analytical capabilities, sound judgement, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking to further their career within a structured and regulated operational environment.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

 

1. Operational and Maintenance Support

  • Assist in the monitoring and execution of routine operational activities across the department.
  • Liaise with maintenance teams to ensure the timely resolution of technical issues and support the execution of planned maintenance activities.
  • Coordinate with internal departments and external contractors to facilitate asset certification, maintenance scheduling, and service delivery.

2. Process and Systems Improvement

  • Contribute to the identification and implementation of initiatives aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, minimizing downtime, and improving workplace safety.
  • Assist in the review, development, and documentation of standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Conduct audits of internal documentation to identify gaps and ensure timely remediation.

3. Compliance and Quality Assurance

  • Support daily inspections and reporting to maintain adherence to applicable regulatory standards and safety protocols.
  • Participate in internal audits and assist with the monitoring and follow-up of corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to facilitate knowledge sharing and promote best practices across the department.

4. Inventory and Logistics Coordination

  • Monitor stock levels of essential operational supplies and assist with procurement, replenishment, and inventory control.
  • Provide support for logistics operations relating to the handling, storage, and transport of materials through the port facility.
  • Work collaboratively with relevant parties to plan and implement improvements within the Port Facility’s operations.

5. Data Collection and Reporting

  • Compile and analyze operational data to inform performance evaluations and compliance monitoring.
  • Maintain accurate records pertaining to operational activities, incidents, audits, and improvement initiatives.
  • Compile reports to share relevant information with internal and external stakeholders.

6. Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Engage with other business units to ensure coordinated operational delivery.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with internal teams and third-party service providers as required.

7. Learning and Development

  • Remain current with company policies, industry standards, and relevant legislation.
  • Participate in structured training programmes and informal learning opportunities to broaden technical and operational competencies.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree or diploma in a STEM field (e.g., Science, Technology, Engineering, Logistics, or Environmental Science); a postgraduate qualification will be considered an asset.
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a technical, operational, or logistics support capacity, ideally within a manufacturing, warehouse, or regulated environment.
  • Experience with SAP or equivalent enterprise systems will be regarded favourably.

 

Required Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:

  • Foundational knowledge of technical systems and equipment operation.
  • Exceptional organisational skills, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with data entry and basic reporting tools is essential.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to manage competing priorities with professionalism.
