The Technical Operations Manager (TOM) will oversee the operations, strategy, and performance of the beverage manufacturing operations.

Position overview:

The Technical Operations Manager (TOM) will oversee the operations, strategy, and performance of the beverage manufacturing operations. This role requires a unique blend of technical expertise in bottling and canning operations, coupled with strong commercial acumen to drive business growth. Reporting directly to the CEO the TOM will ensure operational efficiency, production management, product quality, plant profitability, human resources, customer order fulfillment are all managed, while fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.

  

Key responsibilities:

 Operational Leadership

  1. Oversee all aspects of bottling and canning operations, ensuring production efficiency, quality standards, Maintenance plans and costs, inventory management and accountability and adherence to safety protocols through the various line managers.
  2. Implement and monitor all maintenance programs to minimize downtime and optimize equipment reliability.
  3. Drive continuous improvement initiatives using methodologies such as Total Preventative Maintenance (TPM) and Lean Manufacturing.
  4. Ensure compliance with food safety standards (e.g., HACCP, ISO9001) and industry regulations.

 

Technical Expertise

  1. Coordinate the Lead in troubleshooting efforts for bottling line issues, and brewing and blending ensuring minimal disruptions to production schedules.
  2. Collaborate with engineering and plant teams on the implementation of new technologies or upgrades to existing lines.
  3. Manage trials for new products or packaging formats, ensuring seamless integration into production lines.
  4. Ensure preventative maintenance schedules are adhered to to minimize plant shut-downs.

 

Commercial & Inventory Strategy

  1. Ensure profitability of every product and monthly production run and efficiency
  2. Develop and execute strategic plans to align production capabilities with customer demands and sales forecasts.
  3.  Collaborate with marketing teams to support new product launches, promotional campaigns, and customer requirements.
  4. Optimize cost structures by managing budgets for raw materials, labor, and operational expenses.

Team Development

  1. Build and lead a high-performing team by mentoring department heads in production, quality assurance, maintenance, and logistics.
  2. Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous learning across all levels of the organization.
  3. Ensure effective training programs for staff on technical skills, safety protocols, and operational best practices.

 

Performance Monitoring

  1. Set key performance indicators (KPIs) for production output, efficiency, quality assurance, and cost control.
  2. Regularly review operational results against targets and implement corrective actions as needed.P
  3. repare reports for senior management on plant performance, highlighting achievements and areas for improvement.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree (or Masters) in Engineering (Mechanical and or Industrial), Food Science, Business Management, or a related field; advanced degrees are a plus.

10+ years of experience in beverage manufacturing or FMCG industries, with at least 5 years in a leadership role managing bottling/canning lines.

Very knowledgeable on problems running a plant (technical line issues, problems in supply chain shortages, Quality Control, etc)

Very motivated, loves being in beverage manufacturing, very technical oriented

Understand how breakdowns, line stoppage affects profitability.

An understanding of Profit and Loss statement, line efficiency, Inventory management, liquid losses, packaging losses.
