The System Administrator will play a critical role in maintaining and optimizing our IT infrastructure, ensuring the highest levels of availability, performance, and security.
ROLE AND CORE FUNCTION: Provide a secure, reliable and efficient computing environment so as to ensure efficient information technology operational capability that will achieve acceptable response times, especially during peak periods, and to minimize down times to an acceptable level. Support the information requirements of the Company in a timely, responsive and cost-effective manner.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. To provide the Company with a wide area network that is secure, reliable and efficient.
- Assist in the design, installation and configuration of networking equipment
- Assist in enhancing network effectiveness
- Providing sufficient operational capability to achieve acceptable response times especially during peak periods, and to minimize down times to an acceptable level
- Upgrading and expanding the existing network to accommodate the growing information processing needs of the business
- Monitor all critical networking devices to detect and resolve failure in the shortest possible time
- Ensure security of Company data and the prescribed access to publicly available resources on the network (e.g. e-mail, WWW, routers, etc)
- Assist in establishing telecommunication link between the Company and remote branches or other sites
- Participate in monitoring and logging the movement of computer hardware, especially data communications equipment
- Establish connectivity for users to the network and services such as the Intranet, Email, Internet and application systems.
- Resolve any conflict arising from the addition or removal of a device on the network, or any other network related problem
2. To support more effective approaches to verbal and written communication
- Assist in establishing secured connectivity to the Internet for related services such as email, web browsing, FTP, server, etc.
- Assist in maintaining email, Web and Intranet servers.
3. To continue to upgrade and expand existing hardware to accommodate the growing data processing and information needs of the Company and to integrate state-of-the-art hardware technologies into existing and proposed network configurations, and information systems.
- Assist in the installation of servers, computers and peripherals
- Daily monitoring of servers and applications
- Perform backups and recovery as well as tape librarian functions
- Providing recommendations/specification for server, switches, routers
4. To provide technical support for all areas of end user computing
- Perform installation, maintenance and optimization of computers and peripherals
- Ensure device connectivity and communication between computers, providing a secured and reliable computer environment
- Assist in providing training for users
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- A first degree in Information Technology, Computer Science (or equivalent qualifications)
- A minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience
- Install computers and troubleshoot hardware
- Excellent knowledge of TCP/IP networks, LAN, WAN implementations etc.
- Must have familiarity with NAT, Firewall, Proxy, +/or other security countermeasures.
- Experience with Windows operating systems (WINDOWS 10 and 11, Windows Server etc.).
- Experience with UNIX and LINUX would be an asset.
- Excellent communication skills, both written & oral
- Ability to work on one's own initiative.
