Bayview Hospital (2014) Ltd. is inviting suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of:

 

Surgical Physician Assistant

 

The Surgical Physician Assistant will actively participate and assist consulting surgeons in completing surgical procedures safely. The Surgical Physician Assistant provides immediate support to the surgeons, direct patient care and will act as a vital resource to the staff of the operating room suite.

The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Communicate the surgeons’ preferences and specific patient needs to the surgical team, including but not limited to suture needs; specialty supplies and instrumentation; and equipment.
  • Apply advanced knowledge of normal and pathological surgical anatomy and physiology; as well as the appropriate aseptic skills.
  • Provide the necessary pre-, intra- and post-operative support in accordance with governing legislation and professional regulations; hospital policy; and the requirements of the surgery itself.
  • Participate in the training and education of allied health personnel and surgical teams.

Applicants should possess the following criteria:

  • A Medical Degree (M.D. or M.B.B.S.) from an accredited school of medicine
  • Up-to-date registration with the Barbados Medical Council
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ practical experience as a medical doctor
  • At least six (6) months’ experience in Intensive Care/Accident & Emergency
  • Up-to-date certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Advanced Paediatric Life Support (APLS) certification would be beneficial
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work well within a team environment
