The Structural Steel Detailer (SSD) will be responsible for converting engineering designs into accurate and comprehensive shop drawings for the fabrication and assembly of steel structures.

JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Manager - Engineering or designee, the Structural Steel Detailer (SSD) will be responsible for converting engineering designs into accurate and comprehensive shop drawings for the fabrication and assembly of steel structures. 

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Review architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, and other project documents to accurately interpret the structural requirements and components for the project.
  2. Develop detailed drawings and plans for steel structures using AutoCAD and other drafting tools.
  3. Perform precise material takeoffs to determine the quantity and type of steel required for fabrication.
  4. Take field dimensions and supply as-built drawings, both on and offshore.
  5. Write RFIs and communicate with clients and suppliers to resolve technical issues and ensure the timely completion of projects.
  6. Participate in the review and approval process for projects, making recommendations for improvements as needed.
  7. Carry out any other duties/tasks for which the incumbent has the competencies to perform to ensure attainment of targets and objectives of department/ designated function.

KEY COMPETENCIES / REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE

  • Experience with 3D modeling software, Tekla, or Revit is an asset.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and databases.
  • Comprehend weld types and sizes, connection types and apply their use to various steel applications.
  • Keen eye for precision; attention to detail.
  • Solid understanding of structural engineering principles, fabrication processes and construction methods.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Knowledge of how steel is hoisted, connected, and installed on-site to create erection drawings.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills (verbal, non-verbal and written). 

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Demonstrated competencies normally acquired over a minimum of ten (10) years of working experience in the oil and gas/construction industry or fifteen (15) years of relevant experience as a Senior Technician in the oil and gas/construction industry.
  • 3-5 years of experience in steel detailing, or related experience in the construction or engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 O’Level Subjects, including Mathematics and Physics mandatory.
  • A Technician’s Certificate in Draughting OR as a Mechanical Technician with specialisation in Draughting from an accredited training programme/institution recognised by the Company.
  • Training and/or certification in AutoCAD, Technical Drawing, Geometric Drawing, Engineering Drawing, Architectural Drawing from an accredited programme/training institution.
  • National Technician Diploma in Draughting.
  • Certificate in AutoCAD - Level II & 3D Drawing.
