JOB TITLE:                         Strategic and Policy Tourism Manager

JOB SUMMARY:

 

This is a management position with nationwide responsibility to oversee scientific/research monitoring and development activities of the Department. The job holder will provide science-based recommendations on various issues affecting environmental integrity in TCI The post-holder will contribute to the preparation and implementation of the DEMA’s Business Plan particularly in the areas of research and development. The post holder will work closely with the Director and Deputy Director in order to achieve the goals of the Department. His duties and responsibilities will include research project management, environmental risk assessment and management, and policy research/analysis in relation to environmental sustainability.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. The Officer will be required to coordinate and lead in the implementation of a strategic review and implementation plan for the Tourism Industry. The basis of this role is the Tourism Strategy or KPMG report.
  2. Monitors and analyses trends within the industry. These may result in new strategic priorities, policies programs and plans.
  3. Works closely with the TB in the development of industry strategic marketing and promotional plans to ensure that they fulfil the policy objectives of the Ministry responsible for Tourism.
  4. Works closely with the Tourism Risk Manager especially as it relates to the cruise industry.
  5. Responsible for the implementation of strategic priorities within the Tourism industry. Communicates these to stakeholders
  6. Manages projects, identifies key issues and assists in the organisation of the team’s work.
  7. Advises and assists with other policy initiatives led by the Ministry.
  8. The post holder will draw from his/her expertise to develop a strategic oversight team that will be drawn from key areas of the industry including private and public sector representatives. This team is considered essential for wide sector buy in and transformation/sustainability of the industry.
  9. The Officer’s role is to orchestrate delivery projects as outlined in the Delivery plan within certain set timelines. Some projects may include process improvements to streamline the Tourist Board’s administrative systems.
  10. The Officer may also be responsible for reviewing/coordinating the system of governance and functional support including finance, human resources, communications and progress monitoring.
  11. Submits quarterly reports and other reports in conjunction with key persons on the overall state of the industry or in areas requested.
  12. Adhere to all Public Service codes, rules and regulations.
  13. Any other duties that may be assigned by the Permanent Secretary.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

 

•         A Master’s degree in Tourism, Policy Development or a related field.

•         A Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism, Policy Development, or a related field and at least 8 years of experience directly working in the filed- (If no Master’s Degree)

 

Experience:

 

  • The position requires at least eight (8) years in the field of tourism, policy development or related field.
  • Evidence of having worked in a similar position, providing timely advice, working across departments and sectors, stakeholder engagement and communication

 

REMUNERATION PACKAGE:

 

SALARY – Grade 9 $59,552.50 per annum
