The Static Technician will be responsible for supporting activities in the areas of Maintenance, Piping Fabrication & Fitting, Rigging and Planning.

Overview / Responsibilites

The Static Technician will be responsible for supporting activities in the areas of Maintenance, Piping Fabrication & Fitting, Rigging and Planning.  

  • To ensure Responsible Care is the primary focus of all contract personnel.
  • To ensure compliance of the company with all the terms and conditions defined in its contract with Methanex Trinidad Limited.
  • To ensure the optimal use of the CMMS.
  • Execute maintenance activities in the following:
  • Repairs, and maintenance of static equipment (heat exchangers, columns, drums, piping, valves, gratings, platforms, loading arms), cleaning of tubes with pressure equipment, repair of leaks in welded and/or flanged valves, flanges or other type of unions, etc.
  • Rigging manoeuvres for lifting equipment, structures, etc.
  • Welding and cutting processes.
  • Installation of piping and structural supports.
  • Demonstrate equipment operations and work and safety procedures to new employees or assign employees to experienced workers for training.
  • Interpret and work with isometric drawings, P&ID diagrams, structural drawings both for fabrication as well as for erection, field schemes, repair procedures, etc.
  • Perform Piping Fabrication activities as required:
  • Operate manual or semi-automatic flame cutting equipment, e.g. Oxy Acetylene and Plasma Cutting process. 
  • Align and fit parts according to specifications, using jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, and hammers.
  • Locate and mark work piece bending and cutting lines, allowing for stock thickness, machine and welding shrinkage, and other component specifications.
  • Assist with the maintenance and repair of welding, brazing and soldering equipment.
  • Adjust welding heads and tooling according to work specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and welding process specifications (Inspection test plans).
  • Mark reference points onto floors or face blocks and transpose them to work pieces, using measuring devices, squares, chalk, and soapstone.
  • Assist with general pipe fitting and mechanical activities.
  • Position, align, fit, and weld parts to form complete units or subunits, following blueprints and layout specifications, and using jigs, welding torches and hand tools.
  • Move parts into position, manually or by using hoists or cranes.
  • Design and construct templates and fixtures, using hand tools.
  • Verify conformance of work pieces to specifications, using squares, rulers, and measuring tapes.
  • Perform Pipe Fitting Activities as required:
  • To lay out, assemble, maintain, troubleshoot and repair piping
  • Measure, cut, thread and bend pipe to required shape using hand and power tools.
  • Install supports, valves and piping.
  • Install clamps, brackets and hangers to support piping system/sprinkler/fire protection equipment, using hand and power tools
  • Test system for leaks using air or liquid pressure equipment
  • Repair and replace parts and components for vessels, heat exchangers, turbines, compressors, columns, drums and other process equipment’s
  • Remove high spots and cut bevels, using hand files, portable grinders, and cutting torches.
  • Structure repairs, align and fit parts according to specifications, using jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars and hammers.
  • Perform Rigging Activities as required:
  • Perform pre-operational inspection.
  • Confirm the weights, dimensions and heights of all loads to be lifted.
  • Assess the lift and the surrounding location and perform hazard identification/JHA’s, lanyard/tag line usage, manoeuvres, working space for crane booms, turning space for counterweights, etc.
  • Select the crane and rigging equipment capable of safely managing the loads to be imposed and ensure that safe working load ranges are not exceeded.
  • Select proper lifting equipment for lifts.
  • Work with equipment operators to ensure that loads are secure.
  • Assist crane operators to secure all attachments to loads, guide signal operators in moving loads and provide assistance in other activities.
  • Ensure cranes and all rigging and lifting equipment is certified for use.
  • Perform Planning Activities as required:
  • Preparation, planning, scheduling, coordination and support in the execution of maintenance activities in the most reliable and effective manner possible.
  • Coordinate the activities of, and ensure the availability of materials, equipment and tools for maintenance personnel involved in performing routine, preventative and emergency work on equipment and facilities maintenance.
  • Develop work packages which include as a minimum; specifications, weld procedures, materials, tools, photos, special procedures, drawings, HIDs, RAs, duration and equipment to effect plant repairs.

Qualifications

Education & Formal Qualifications:

  • Secondary School Certificate or validated through the Competency Management Assessment system.
  • Industry courses in fabrication, fitting, rigging.

Competencies & Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years experience in a maintenance function in the petrochemical industry.
  • Familiarity with machine shop work.
  • Welding and piping requirements.
  • Maintenance and/or erection of equipment, that is, pumps, compressors, turbines, heat exchangers.
  • Confined space, banksman, rigger, banksman and work at heights.
  • Must be Computer literate.
  • Must possess good verbal and oral communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills, team player.
  • Technical competency in report writing
  • Valid Certificate of Good Character (must not be older than 6 months).
  • Preference will be given to national citizens or permanent residents of Trinidad & Tobago
